1. To make text box is click either on T, click and pull. Click in box to start typing.

2. To adjust text font (style, size) is left, make sure A is selected in top menu (you likely will have to highlight the text first then make adjustments)

3. To make changes to paragraphs (justify text, etc.), make sure paragraph mark is selected. [pic]

4. Black arrow (left hand menu) is selection tool. That’s how select text box. You can change size of box by pulling on the small boxes (see below). You can also move the box (black arrow) to somewhere else on page. With photo box, if you click the contact grabber (the donut) that appears over an image when you hold the mouse over it you can move the photo within the frame. Notice how the menu changes when you select it. It now offers options for changing the box itself, not what is in it.

5. You can adjust the size of the box by pulling and pushing on squares.

6. Presets are located in paragraph style.

7. To get view of finished product without lines (easiest way is up at top, screen mode, click to preview mode)

8. First line indent is upper right corner, bottom left of four boxes. Make sure you highlight your text first OR select box, type, paragraph, second option on left, click up button once or twice.

9. To make text flow into columns: Make sure your text box is selected (black arrow), make sure the Paragraph symbol is clicked in menu, then change your columns

10. Kerning: to tighten letters of your headline. Make sure the T is selected on lefthand menu to access the kerning option.

11. To remove hyphens, highlight text, then type, paragraph, uncheck hyphenate box (if not using a preset).

12. To wrap text around a photo or caption or a box like a byline or jump box: select item (black arrow) and choose box from menu or windows, text wrap, choose one (for bylines I choose jump object)

13. To inset text, Object, text frame options. If one box is too close to another (caption and start of story) select one box (black arrow) and use up or down or left or right arrow to move it away.

14. To print, file, print, setup, scale to print.

15. If you are close to filling up two columns but not quite (choose box and click select tool) (then Balance Columns):

16. To get All Caps, etc., it’s Type, Character, then select the little box to the right of the word Character:

17. To put a border around a text box. Make sure box is selected (black arrow). Click on this arrow to choose a color for your border. Then choose a pt size.

18. To add a narrow rule between elements, select / from left side menu. Click on start, and holding shift, drag the line. Then can adjust its size when it is selected in same area as above.

19. To add bullet points, create text box, make sure T is selected on left-hand menu, make sure P is selected on upper menu, then find the bullet point box.

20. Send to back or Bring to front, is right click, Arrange

21. To make a photo box, it’s the box with the X in it. Then File, Place, select photo. (Remember, you need to have saved the photo into your WWW folder on your H drive first).

22. Fit photo to frame: Object (from top menu), Fitting, Fit content proportionally (if you choose fit content to frame, it could warp your image just to make it fit). Remember, it’s best to adjust the size first in Photoshop.

23. If you want to just copy the photos into the photo box, right click on photo, copy, select photo box, edit, Paste into, then object, fit frame proportionally.

24. To group (lock together) a photo and a cutline: choose the black arrow, click on the cutline box, shift and click on the picture, then Object (from top menu) and Group. (Obviously to undo them, simply select them (click on them with black arrow) and Object, Ungroup.)
