How to Get an Adobe ID



Using Library to Go eBooks with Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

These instructions are written for a computer running the Windows XP operating system and the Internet Explorer 8 web browser. Other operating systems and web browsers may differ slightly.

How to Get an Adobe ID

You will need to sign up for a free Adobe ID before you will be able to transfer library ebooks from Adobe Digital Editions to your eReader.

1) Go to

2) Click on Sign In in the upper right corner.

3) Click Don’t Have an Adobe ID? below the Sign In Button

4) Fill in the requested information. Be sure to remember which email address and password you used as you will need it later.

5) You can select click the box above the create button if you want Adobe information emailed to you, or not if you prefer not.

6) Click the Create button.

7) The next screen requests a few more pieces of information however it is not required. Click the Continue button.

How to Download and Install Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

1) Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 to be installed on your computer prior to installation. If you don’t already have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed, go to and download and install it.

2) Go to products/digital-editions/download.html

3) Click the Download Windows button. *Note* if you have a Macintosh click the Download Macintosh button, the steps will vary slightly from those for Windows.

4) When prompted “Do you want to save or run this file?” click the Run button.

5) If a security warning appears, click the Run button again.

6) When the Adobe Digital Editions license agreement appears, “click in the box to the left of “I accept the terms in the License Agreement”, then click the Next button.

7) Click the Next button again on the next screen to install all components.

8) Click the Install button to install Adobe Digital Editions to the default destination folder. Adobe Digital Editions will now begin to install.

a. If you are prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, click the Yes button to proceed to the .NET download page, and click the Download button to download and install it. Once Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is installed, return to step 2.

9) When the installation has completed, click the Close button to exit the installer. After a few seconds, Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 should automatically open.

How to Authorize Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

Adobe Digital Editions needs to be authorized with your Adobe ID before you can use it to transfer eBooks to your eReader.

1) Click on the Help menu, then click on Authorize Computer.

2) Type your Adobe ID email address into the “Adobe ID” box and your Adobe ID password into the “Password” box, then click the Authorize button.

How to Authorize Your eReader in Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

1) Your eReader should automatically authorize itself with the same Adobe ID that you have your computer authorized under when you transfer a book from Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 onto your eReader.

2) An alternative way to authorize your device is to open Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 and on the left-hand side click on the name of your eReader device listed underneath the heading Devices. Then click on the gear icon next to the Devices heading to bring up a drop down menu. In that menu click on Authorize Device.

3) A window will appear providing you with the option to authorize your eReader using the same Adobe ID information that you used to authorize your computer. Click on Authorize Device to complete the authorization procedure.

How to Transfer eBooks to Your eReader

1) Right-click on the cover of the eBook you want to transfer to your eReader and then move your cursor over Copy to Computer/Device and then click on the name of your eReader from the drop down menu on the right.

a) Alternatively you can click, drag, and drop the eBook onto the name of your eReader on the left-hand side of the Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 Window.

How to Return eBooks

1) Right-click on the cover of the eBook you want to return and then click on Return Borrowed Item from the drop down menu. A window will appear asking you to confirm that you would like to return the borrowed item, click on Yes to confirm. The item will now be returned to the Library-to-Go website.
