BRANDING/ LOGOS/ LOGOTYPES/ CORPORATE IDENITY

AIM: What is Branding and how do logos identify a company?

OBJECTIVE:

• You came into a lot of money and want to create a business based on WATER.

• You must create a BRAND and a LOGO to sell to your TARGET AUDIENCE.

• First develop a PRODUCT that would be interested for the public to by. (Product MUST be water-themed.)

• Then, you will create a LOGO and PERSONAL LOGOTYPE for the Product.

• Afterwards, you will create a CORPOATE IDENITY, which involves PACKAGING DESIGN for your Company.

TERMS:

• Branding: To create an identity for a company by analyzing its intentions and purpose to serve consumers.

• Logo: A symbol that communicates the identity of a company.

QUESTION:

• What goes into the process of creating a logo?

o Type, shapes, lines, minimal figures are part of the logo design process.

• In what ways can we draw a logo using thumbnail sketches?

THUMBNAIL SKETCHES:

Objective:

1. Now that you have come up with a product to sell and a Company name, begin the process of drawing a logo using text, shape, and line in thumbnail sketches.

2. Add symbols and explore different ways a logo begins to form.

3. In the boxes provided, SKETCH out ideas of how to apply TYPOGRAPHY to your Company Name,

4. In the same boxes or different ones, you can also try to incorporate symbols.

5. This is SCRAP and a place to brainstorm.

DRAWING LOGOS ON ABODE: ILLUSTRATOR:

By now, you should have your LOGO designed and draw on your BRISTOL BOARD.

Make your PERSONAL LOGO TYPES and your COMPANY IDENITY; you must design your Logo in ADOBE: ILLUSTRATOR. You can either scan your image in and “trace” it or draw it free-handed on Illustrator.

AIM: How can we use the tools in illustrator to design our logo?

Objectives:

1. Using the type tool, customize the type for the company name.

2. Using the pen tool, trace images and draw symbols to combine with your type.

3. Using the shape and line tool, add to your logo design.

4. Document Set Up:

a. File -> New

b. Name: Yourname Letterhead

c. Dimensions: 8.5 x 11 inches (OR VICE VERSA)

d. CMYK

e. When Finished: File> EXPORT< Save As: JPEG

**T tool is for Type – Use this tool to type in any text and to change size, font, and style.

Explore various fonts for the right style and mood of the company identity.

Once you have found a font that fits best, you may turn your font into artwork. This allows you to simplify the type and manipulate anchor points in the typeface.

**Familiarize yourselves with Illustrator once again. Review the tool palette and remind yourselves of the command tools before you start drawing. Refer to this diagram

CREATING A BUSINESS CARD, LETTERHEAD, AND EVELEOPE (PERSONAL LOGOTYPES)

Font:

• What type of font is clear and best demonstrates the style of the company?

• Select and use a font that best demonstrates mood.

• Should be VERY SIMILAR to your Company Logo!

Letterheads:

AIM: How can we design letterheads and envelopes using the logo and identity of our company?

Objectives:

o Design a letterhead using YOUR NAME as a representative of your company

o The STYLE and APPEARANCE should mimic the LOGO you previously designed.

o Think about creating a style that fits the identity of your company.

o Create an address and phone number along with other info to put in your layout.
