We currently have an exciting opening for Senior Chemist at our Minneapolis Research and Development Laboratory. The person filling this position will contribute to the development of new products and technology supporting the field of unsaturated polyesters, vinyl esters, and composites. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing thermoset resins in emerging applications. He/she will also have the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of renewable and recyclable green technologies.

Major Responsibilities:

• Perform all required activities in a manner deemed to be safe and with minimal risk to self and co-workers.

• Formulation of vinyl ester resin and unsaturated polyester products.

• Develop a knowledge base and hands-on skill set through sound scientific methodology.

• Participate in laboratory work activities involving new materials evaluation, new product development, new applications for existing products, and matching of competitive products.

• Seek the direction of the R&D Manager in the areas of product and services development.

• Participate in production quality control, directly as well as through the Quality Assurance Group, implementing the quality control design functions coincident with product development.

• Assist customers and sales personnel with technical advice, service, or assistance, and make product recommendations.

• Respond to inquiries regarding technical problems or matters.

• Make appropriate recommendations to the R&D Manager or other management personnel.

• Maintain laboratory facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for various applications.

• Keep current on new products, ingredients, techniques, developments, etc., within the composites industry.

• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required:

• Advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science or equivalent years of experience.

• Broad general knowledge of polymer chemistry, polymer characterization, and polymer structure-property relationships.

• Knowledge of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resin chemistry.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and pass a respirator test.
