2020 UNITED STATES ASSOCIATION OF BLIND ATHLETES

HALL OF FAME PROGRAM

1. Purpose

The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) Hall of Fame is established to recognize USABA athletes, coaches and other USABA members who distinguished themselves through athletic accomplishment or through a significant role in the advancement of sports for people who are blind and visually impaired. Individuals will be considered for these awards on a quadrennial basis. A member will only receive one selection for an individual USABA Hall of Fame award.

2. Nomination Criteria

The nomination criteria is designed to base selections not entirely on a specific number of medals won, records set or other specific performance quotas. Nominations and selections should reflect the nominee’s overall contribution to sport for people who are blind and visually impaired based on the requirements of the category the individual is nominated.

3. Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will be established by the USABA Executive Director and will:

A. establish and publish a time period to solicit and receive nominations

B. review nomination submissions, and from those nominations provide selection recommendations to the USABA Hall of Fame award selection committee up to the category limits established in paragraph 5 of this document.

4. Selection Committee

The USABA Executive Director will approve results submitted by the selection committee.

5. Hall of Fame Categories

Listed below are competitive categories, eligibility criteria, selection limits for USABA Hall of Fame recognition. Although a maximum number of selections per category is noted, not all selection quotas must be used if the selection committee does not believe there are sufficient numbers of nominations that meet selection criteria within a particular category.

A. Athletes (up to 3 selections)

Athletes who competed in their final competition as of the closing ceremonies of the 2014 Paralympic Games or earlier are eligible for nomination and selection.

B. Teams (up to 1 selection)

This category may not have an inductee each award period as there are limited team sports in USABA. However, it is the wish of USABA to honor those teams who demonstrated exceptional performance. The specific team (specific team is determined by the team roster of that team) should have competed as of the closing ceremonies of the 2014 Paralympic Games or earlier.

C. Coaches (up to 1 selection)

Individuals who have distinguished themselves by significant actions or results as a member of coaching staffs for USA teams or athletes in Paralympic Games or IBSA sports competitions. Included in this category are coaches, team leaders and athletic trainers. They must have last participated as of the closing ceremonies of the 2014 Paralympic Games or earlier.

D. Special Contributor (up to 1 selection)

Individual who demonstrated extraordinary service to enhance the mission of sports for people who are blind and visually impaired over an extended period of time (a minimum of 10 years).

6. Induction Ceremony

Each inductee will be offered the opportunity to be publicly recognized at an appropriate induction ceremony. Inductee names will be added to the consolidated USABA Hall of Fame plaque located in the USABA national headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their names added the hall of fame are of the USABA website. Inductees will also receive individual USABA Hall of Fame plaques.

7. Nomination Package Requirements

Nomination packages should include all information to enable the selection committee to make clear-cut recommendations to the selection committee. Nomination packages must contain:

A. A letter of recommendation from the nominee’s sponsor or nominating group.

B. A Hall of Fame Induction Application (attached).

C. A brief biography (format attached) and digital photograph of the nominee. The photograph may be from when the nominee may have been participating in a USABA activity, or it can be a current headshot photograph.

D. Optional: Additional relevant information that supplements and enhances the nomination may be submitted as part of the nomination package.
