Welcome & Announcements

Pastoral Greeting

*Congregational Introit (8:00 AM): “The King of Glory Comes” # 159

Handbell Introit (10:15 AM): “Rise Up, Go Tell It”

*Lighting the Advent Candle+:

L: Conflict convulses the nations. Where is the peaceable realm?

P: Borne in the most unexpected of hands.

L: Conflict tears at our nation. Where is the peaceable realm?

P: Born into our midst when we least expect it.

L: Conflict echoes in our streets. Where is the peaceable realm?

P: Borne by the most unlikely of vessels.

L: Conflict rips at our homes and at our hearts. Where is the peaceable realm?

P: Born in the heart of one with a heart like ours.

L: Denial, distraction, silence, acquiescence – false peace is offered at every turn.

Where is the realm of true peace?

P: Born in the person of one we didn’t know we needed.

L: Desire of Nations, Glory of Heaven, Light of the World:

You are our peace, you are our light.

P: We don’t know the hour of your coming,

So until then, let us be the peace and the light. See us shining, and come.

(The first two candles are lit.)

*Opening Hymn: “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” # 153

*Opening Prayer [In Unison]:

Come, O Jesus. Come and move among us. Inspire us to listen to your words and put them into practice. Empower us to let go of all the chaff in our lives and instead bear the good fruit you call us to. Make our hearts full of love and grace for all of humanity, full of your care for all of Creation, and always ready to respond to a brother or sister in need. As we strive to be your disciples, walk with us and guide us in your ways. Come to us in this hour of worship. Come, Lord Jesus, Come. Amen.

Anthem (10:15 AM): “Prepare” -Chancel Choir

Mission Moment: Church World Service

Especially for Children

The Song “Away in a Manger” (see words below)

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay

close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,

and fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen
