Kern Dance Alliance is a nonprofit dance advocacy organization supporting dance and the arts in Kern County through 4 pillars:

DANCE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE KDA disseminates information about events, news, tips, articles, and advocacy. DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS + GRANTS KDA provides scholarships and grants for dance-related opportunities. DANCE PROGRAMS KDA makes it possible to attend professional programs, classes, and performances by national and international artists. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT KDA provides educators with tools to enrich the quality of dance education for students.

KDA is pleased to partner with Garces Memorial High School as the official dance studio sponsor for all KDA programs.

National Honors Society for Dance ArtsTM (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance. Kern County dancers are eligible to become NHSDA inductees through KDA and will be celebrated at an induction luncheon this Spring. NHSDA

Books In Motion: DANCE + LITERACY

SUMMER 2018 Kern County Libraries

In collaboration with the Kern County Library, Kern Literary Council, and Barnes and Noble, Books in Motion links dance and literacy for children, Kindergarten-3rd grade. Focused on Common Core Standards in Reading Literature, families are invited to attend Kern County Library branches to see their favorite stories come to life through dance performance. Kern County dance organizations are invited to apply to become the official Books in Motion performers, applications open February 1. BIM

SHINE For Girls: MATH + DANCE = SUCCESS

Saturdays, September 8 - October 27, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM KDA Dance Studio at Garces Memorial High School

SHINE for Girls is a nationally recognized, innovative, curriculum-based, after-school program for middle school girls. Utilizing kinesthetic learning, SHINE combines formal dance training with rigorous math instruction to improve girls' math scores and spark their interest in STEM careers. ADAPTIdance: DANCE + DISABILITY

Fall 2018 KDA Dance Studio at Garces Memorial High School

KDA and the League of Dreams will offer ADAPTIdance, an adaptive dance program for Kern County residents. Participants will learn inclusive, creative dance that is accessible for movers with and without cognitive and phyPshoictoaClredit: Chuck Hashim disabilities. This program will culminate with a performance at the historic Bakersfield Fox Theater. ADAPTIdance is the only dance and disability program available for children with cognitive and physical disabilities in Kern County. Registration for dancers and ADAPTidance dance interns open September 1. ADAPTIDANCE

Children's Dance Education And Outreach Event

November 15 Bakersfield Fox Theater

The Children's Dance Education and Outreach Event provides socio and economically disadvantaged children the chance to experience an afternoon of dance. Children are invited to the Fox Theater to view professional dance performances, participate in a Q & A session with the performers, partake in a dance class and performance on stage. Kern County dancers are invited to apply to participate in this special event, applications open October 1. CHILDRENSDANCE

Ford Dimension Dream Builders Program

S.T.E.P - Senior Targeted Exercise Program February 8, 9:00 - 11:30 AM Adventist Health Bakersfield Medical Center

KDA is proud to partner with Team Bank of the Sierra of the Ford Dimension Dream Builders Program on their project, S.T.E.P., a Senior Targeted Exercise Program focused on reducing muscle degenerative diseases. The workshop will be presented by specialists who will demonstrate and speak on physical therapy exercises, Dance/Movement Therapy, nutritional and mental health aspects to promote healthy and active lifestyles. The event is free and open to the public.

Behind the Scenes: The Joffrey Ballet Romeo and Juliet

March 8 Music Center, Los Angeles

KDA will send 2 lucky KDA Members to go behind of the scenes of The Joffrey Ballet's Romeo and Juliet by attending the technical/dress rehearsal at the Music Center in Los Angeles. Contest rules and eligibility will be announced early spring.

Dancing Under the Stars

March 10 PADRE HOTEL - Prairie Fire Patio

EAT, DRINK, and DANCE under the stars at one of Kern County's most treasured historic hotels, The Padre Hotel. Featuring Dancing With The Stars Emmy-nominated, celebrity dancer, Dmitry Chaplin, guests are invited to take a dance class, eat delicious appetizers, and drink fine crafted cocktails. A mini performance and Q&A with Mr. Chaplin will also be featured on the Padre Hotel's 2nd floor patio, Prairie Fire. This event is open to couples and individuals from amateur to novice. Registration opens February 10.

MemoryMOVES: DANCE + THERAPY

Spring 2018 Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, Inc.

KDA has partnered with the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, Inc. (ADAKC) by offering MemoryMOVES: DANCE + THERAPY for memory-impaired clients. In collaboration with registered Dance/Movement Therapist, Elena Rezai, MemoryMOVES will utilize Dance/Movement Therapy as a modality of support and offer clients, staff and caregivers alike, a glimpse into the transformative power of movement. Registration opens March 1.

Art After Dark: MUSEUM DANCES

May 31 Bakersfield Museum of Art

KDA and the Bakersfield Museum of Art will produce Art After Dark: MUSEUM DANCES, an after-hours art experience featuring fine art, dance, and drinks at Kern County's only accredited art museum. Kern County dance artists are invited to apply to become the official performers for the event, applications open March 1.

National Dance Day

July 28 KDA Dance Studio at Garces Memorial High School

8 hours. 8 dance classes. $2 a class. KDA is setting the dance floor on fire this summer in celebration of National Dance Day! Dance classes will vary from beginning to advanced and range in dance disciplines. From Zumba to Hip Hop, Square Dance to Contemporary, dance classes are open to all community members, dancers and non-dancers, who want to join in the fun! Kern County dance educators are invited to apply to become the official National Dance Day teachers, applications open June 1.
