San Joaquin Valley-Sierra Nevada Regional Perinatal Program, Champions for Change, Diabetes Education Program, Every Woman Counts, Hispanic Latino Coordinating Center, Lock It Up Project, Merced County Tobacco Control, Multiservice Senior Services Program, Performing Above the High, Perinatal Wellness Program, ReACT, Si Se Puede, Smoke-Free North & South State, Unidos Por Salud

O New Perinatal Mental Health program ? Looking for community members interested in joining or attending a coalition meeting ? Main objectives are training medical providers and behavioral health professionals to

screen for postpartum depression and linkage to services O CA PREP ? The California Personal Responsibility Education Program provides sexual health

education to adolescents via effective, evidence-based program models. The program focuses on how to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

? California ranks 1st for total number of cases of Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and

congenital syphilis ? Gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia are becoming resistant to antibiotic treatments ? Kings County ranks 7th for early syphilis cases in California

O Syphilis Outbreak ? In 2017, Kings County had a recorded 71 cases of people diagnosed with early syphilis ? In 2013, Kings County had a recorded 17 cases of people diagnosed with

? MPC is a nine-part evidence-based curriculum that provides youth with knowledge and motivation, and skills necessary to change their behaviors in ways that will reduce their risk of pregnancy or contracting HIV and other

sexually transmitted diseases. O Clinical Linkages

? Ensure Kings County sexually active youth have access to teen friendly reproductive health planning services

? Provide students with information on Family PACT clinics, locations and hours

as well as applications O Tobacco Prevention Efforts in Kings County

? Almost half of local stores sell large cigars, e-cigarettes, flavored smokeless products,

cigarillos, and little cigars (2014) ? The majority of adolescents ages 12-17 who self-reported ever experimenting with

tobacco, started with a flavored product ? Nearly 80% of adult smokers began smoking by the age of 18 ? In September, teen e-cigarette use was officially listed as an epidemic by the FDA ? There are 15,500 flavors and counting ? In Kings County data

? 13.0% adult smoking rate ? 15.4% youth tobacco use ? 131 tobacco retailers of which 21.4% are near schools O Unios Por Salud ? Over 1.1 million (11.5%) Hispanic/Latinos smoke in California ? 54.8% Hispanic/Latinos smoke in Kings County ? 13.5% Hispanic/Latino high school students use tobacco ? The Central Valley, with mostly rural counties, has a higher rate of smokers with a

13.9% adult smoking rate in Kings County ? Why should Hanford be concerned? 47% of Hanford's population is Hispanic/Latino

with nearly 34.9% of Hanford's population is under the age of 21 ? Unios Por Salud provides educational presentations, community events, and youth

coalition O Regional Advocates Countering Tobacco (ReACT)- Funded in 2015, REACT is a tri-county

tobacco program servicing Fresno, Tulare and Kings Counties. The program is tasked with reducing secondhand smoke exposure by supporting public policies for outdoor recreational

areas, youth engagement in tobacco control, and tobacco retailer density (how many tobacco retailers are in community compared to population) and zoning (how close they are to youth sensitive areas).

? Kings County Update ? 15 active youth in the Hanford Tobacco Free Youth Coalition and 5 in the

Corcoran Tobacco Free Youth Coalition ? Connected with Councilmember Francisco Ramirez to put youth coalition on the

agenda to present at City Council regarding tobacco-free parks in Hanford. We invite you to attend and show support.

O Despite an increase in the unemployment rate from November 2018 to December 2018 (likely due to seasonal layoffs), December 2018's unemployment rate was below that of December 2017.

O Concerning educational attainment, 8.5% of Kings County residents possess a bachelor's degree (10.1% below the national average), and 8.1% hold an associate degree (0.1% above the national average).

o Workgroup Focus

Julia Patino, Victim Witness

? Human Trafficking Roundtable ? Julia shared that the roundtable was held on January 31st with about 50 people in attendance. A resource list of those who attended is coming. There is need for a task force in Kings County and it is currently being formed. The task force will be led by the District Attorney's office.

o Roundtable Sharing ? Westcare works in schools to educate youth on the danger of drug use at a level they can understand. With the new marijuana laws, youth no longer have a possible misdemeanor as a deterrent, and they see suspension from school as a vacation. Westcare is currently working at Hanford High School, Jamison High School, Sunrise, Community Day School, Hanford West High School, Earl F. Johnson Continuation High School, John Muir and Corcoran High Schools. ? Westcare Veterans helps with rent and utility assistance. Always looking to partner with local organizations, property owners/management. ? Aspiranet to co-host `Journey to Hope' Youth Symposium on March 30th at Tulare County Office of Education. This is a FREE workshop designed to support foster and adoptive parents and youth. Professionals who support families and children are also encouraged to attend. This training is rated PG13 due to content of topics. Youth under the age of 13 cannot attend. Also, please not there is no childcare provided. ? Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal is working to build partnerships/relationships in the community. They provide education to support clients. ? American Cancer Society to host their first Health & Wellness Expo on September 14th at the Hanford Mall. The event will include a pop-up clinic, education on tobacco, physical activity, nutrition, cancer prevention & services. ? California Health Collaborative Perinatal Program looking to partner with other organizations to train, educate & provide linkages to services. ? CHC ReACT Youth Coalition meets on Tuesday, February 26th at 3:30pm at the Hanford Library ? KARELink is a system of care that involves collaboration between many providers in Kings County. This system is designed to assist Kings County residents who could benefit from having a case manager for accessing any combination of services related to mental health, addictions, and/or chronic health conditions. Assessments, Case Management, Public Assistance, skills to enhance well-being, SSI advocacy, tattoo removal, sobriety program, civil legal assistance, and group support. ? JTO has federal funding to support individuals re-entering the workforce.

? Adventist Health to host a Butterfly Release in May. Community members are invited to join others in remembering loved ones lost, or praying for family members in need, by releasing beautiful butterflies into the air.

? Warm Line has 2 part-time positions open. Apply at , careers, Peer Support Specialist ? Koinonia Church, Adventist Health, and FAST Credit Union to host `Leading Healthy Teams' on May 10th. Super

CASA to host a 2-week advocate training in April. For more information, contact Nathan Lee at nlee@ ? Kings United Way Points of Light Health & Hygiene Drive for Seniors ? In partnership with Kings County Commission on Aging, items are being collected for senior citizens who are shut-ins due to health issues. Collections will run through April 10th. Volunteers are needed to assemble bags on April 12th at Kings United Way from 2-5pm. For a list of items and/or to register to volunteer, please visit . ? Kings County Victim Witness to host their annual Victims' Rights event on April 9th at 5pm at First Baptist Church. More information to come. ? CAPC to host their annual Kids Day event on April 27th. Office Decorating contest information coming soon! ? Kings County Probation F.A.V.O.R. Unit is focused on Juvenile Crime Prevention. They are a diverse program working to keep juveniles out of the criminal justice system. Overall, they pride themselves in making a difference in the lives of the youth in Kings County. The Episcopal Church Soup Kitchen serves sack lunches on Sundays and are in need of donations of water & snacks. They are also always in need of volunteers to help prepare & serve meals, high schools students who need their community service credits are welcome. ? Kings County Wellness Bridge to offer `One Stop Shop' at the Episcopal Church Soup Kitchen. With the goal of connecting individuals with local service providers and sign-up for services. NAS Lemoore Fleet & Family Services working on lots of events/awareness for the month of April: Sexual Assault Awareness, Military Child, Audism, and Child Abuse ? Kings County Behavioral Health Tele-psychiatrist program coming soon! ? Kings County ACT works with mentally ill and is in need of housing for clients.
