Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he

ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living

and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins;

the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

We are people of God, but the Scripture reminds us that we still sin. Let us confess our failures, knowing

that the Lord Jesus intercedes for us with the Father, who freely forgives us, through his infinite

goodness and mercy. Let us pray together:

In the Prayer of Confession: (Unison)

God of all joy, you have invited us to enter your presence boldly; yet we have turned away from you. You

have opened the way for us to celebrate our relationship with you joyously, but we have held back in fear.

We confess that we have resisted your summons to intimacy. Warm our hearts to welcome your embrace; quicken

our voices to sing your praise, and our feet to dance with joy, in bold assurance and glad celebration,

that we are indeed beloved by you, and that through Christ, you reign over all. AMEN

|In the Assurance of Pardon: |Minister |

Happy are those whose help is in God, the One who made heaven and earth. Blessed are those whose hope is in

Christ, the One who keeps faith forever. In that spirit of faithfulness, God in Christ has forgiven us and

invites us to rise in new life.

|People: |Thanks be to God! Amen. |

Genesis 35:9-15

9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,[a] God appeared to him again and blessed him. 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,[b] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.[c]” So he named him Israel. 11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty[d]; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. 12 The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.” 13 Then God went up from him at the place where he had talked with him. 14 Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. 15 Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.[e
