Job Description

Accounting Analyst

Classification: Grade D Department: Finance

Status: Exempt Supervisor: Controller

Definition:

To create and maintain RCAC’s budgets and provide ongoing analytical support. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintain corporate budgeting systems; perform analysis of all accounts; review revenue centers; maintain general ledger; perform month-end closing for the overall corporation and for the loan fund; maintain project management system; serve as back-up for the other positions in the department.

Specific job goals, objectives and tasks are established for each employee as part of the annual evaluation and work plan process. Examples of general responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:

▪ Prepare financial statements & cash flows – assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements and notes to the Financial Statements as necessary. Prepare quarterly cash flows

▪ Perform analysis – perform financial analysis of operations; prepare ad hoc management reports; conduct ongoing analysis of general ledger accounts and balances; coordinate self-audit schedule and analysis with team

▪ Reconciliation of operating bank account – perform monthly analysis and reconciliation of operating bank account statements to general ledger; identify and research discrepancies; make adjusting entries when necessary

▪ Review & Reconciliation of investment portfolio and accounts – perform monthly analysis and reconciliation of investment account statements to general ledger; identify and research discrepancies; make adjusting entries when necessary; analyze profitability of revenue and investment sources, develop methods to track investment income Prepare quarterly investment report

▪ Loan Fund financial statement review – assist Assistant Controller in the review of Loan Fund client’s financial statements

▪ Maintenance of budgets – maintain the corporate budgeting files and process, prepare proposal and corporate budgets; analyze variances; assist in preparation of future year/s budget. Coordinate with grant & contracts unit and/or contract leads in budget upload to budget software

▪ Assist in development for program budgets – work with field staff and program managers in development and on-going maintenance of program and related task budgets; develop methods to track costs of specific tasks within programs

▪ Reconciliation of budgeted labor hours – compare budgeted salary dollars to budgeted labor hours; identify discrepancies and work with program manager to modify budget of Labor Distribution System information

▪ Perform additional duties – serve as backup for other positions in the department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Standard office procedures

Personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs

English language, grammar, spelling and punctuation

Detailed working knowledge of Great Plains accounting software & other budgeting software

General accounting theory, principles and practices

Basic principles of fund accounting

Nonprofit, multi-funded organizations

Government grant regulations

Ability to:

Use a personal computer at high-level proficiency using Word

Use spreadsheet, database and presentation programs

Proofread and edit documents

Demonstrate a high level of customer service skills

Work with minimum supervision and handle multiple priorities simultaneously

Follow detailed instructions

Use initiative to approach troubleshooting and problem-solving alternatives

Organize and prioritize work to meet established timelines

Effectively listen and communicate both verbally and in writing

Prepare and present complex financial reports, statements, and summaries

Analyze complex financial and statistical data, records, and reports

Operate a 10-key calculator by touch

Physical Job Requirements:

Light – lifting, lifting overhead (25 pounds or less), word processing, operating 10-key, filing, operating fax machine, copier/printer, operating telephone, standing, walking (average one hour or less per day per activity), automobile and airline travel (two days or less per month)

Moderate – data entry (average two hours per day per activity)

Heavy – sitting (average four or more hours per day per activity)

Preferred Education and Experience:

A combination of experience and education is necessary to qualify for the position. A typical qualifying combination may include:

Experience:

Four (4) years of applicable experience in nonprofit and/or public (fund) accounting (education may be substituted for experience)

Preferred Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Management

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid driver's license and proof of insurance that meets the minimum requirements ($100,000/$300,000) of RCAC corporate liability policy may be required when traveling for business purposes.

The following benefits start the first of the month following date of employment:

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Paid Time Off accrual begins the first day of the month following date of hire. Each regular full-time employee accrues 19 days of PTO per year, 22 days of PTO per year after three years, and 24 days of PTO per year after six years. No more than 30 days of PTO may be accrued. Regular, part-time employees accrue PTO on a pro rata basis. Any exceptions to the maximum PTO accrual must be approved by the chief executive officer.

Other Leave

RCAC provides Bereavement Leave with pay, Maternity/Paternity Leave, Jury Duty and Military Leave.

Tax-Sheltered 403(b) Plan

Regular employees, full-time or part-time, may contribute to a tax-sheltered 403(b) plan starting the first of the month following their date of hire.

The following benefits are available to employees when they have passed their introductory period:

Tax-Sheltered 403(b) Plan

RCAC will make semi-monthly deposits (the amount is determined by the RCAC board of directors) into a tax-sheltered 403(b) plan for each regular full-time or part-time employee after the completion of six months of employment).
