1. Background:

1. Name and explain the 4 central traditions/values of Native Americans that were mentioned in the textbook.

2. Describe the inhabitants of the first English settlements. Who were they? Where were they from? What were they called? What were their religious beliefs?

3. What was the earliest form of literature that Native Americans practiced the earliest days? Why?

4. Describe the role of women in early American colonies.

5. Describe the evolution of the English language that took place during the 1600-1700s.

6. What were some words added to the English language from Native American and African American languages? (know the original and English forms)

Define and explain the following terms---know if and how they apply to the Native American literature pieces that we discussed in class.
