After Surgery Care

After Dental Care

Below are some general guidelines following your pet’s dental work. Attitude and appetite are good, simple indicators of how your pet may feel. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Your pet may eat & drink regularly unless otherwise instructed. Do not force food or water. Your pet should resume normal eating patterns within 24-48 hours. After extractions, moisten dry food or feed canned food for several days. If your pet does not eat or drink anything within 24 hours, contact the office.

Some vomiting may occur following general anesthesia. If vomiting occurs, do not allow food or water for several hours, then only in small amounts starting with water. If it persists, please contact the clinic.

Some bleeding may occur following teeth cleaning and extractions. It is not unusual for the pet’s drinking water to become blood tinged. This should resolve during the first 24 hours. If the bleeding persists, please contact the clinic.

Your pet will generally resume normal activity levels in 2-3 days.

We recommend feeding Hill’s T/D diet and using Oral Hygiene Rinse to help ensure your pet’s dental health.
