Returning to work after illness or injury50863558547000Claims from work-related injuries and illnesses have declined over time, but return to work rates have remained stable and time off has increased, particularly for psychological injury. 5236210653415Being unable to return to work leads to adverse health, social and financial outcomes for the worker, and substantial financial and productivity costs to the employer. The supervisor?worker relationship is key to providing support for workers to return to suitable duties following an injury or illness — but supervisors have limited time, knowledge and confidence. We partnered with the Department of Education, Skills and Employment to design behaviourally informed reference materials for supervisors and tested them in two APS agencies. We developed support materials for supervisors in a five-step process matching the worker’s return to work journey. The five steps include materials to support the supervisor:A customizable email to send to the injured/ill workerA reminder checklist for keeping in touchA conversation starter with tips for both physical and psychological injuriesA suitable duties guideLinks to useful Comcare resourcesSupervisors and case managers reported the materials were useful: 22542522860“Overall, I think the content is really good. [The Checklist] is great! The mental health content and language is great [in the suitable duties guide]” (HR, ATO) ................
