Innovation and Practice Manager (full time)

Marrickville Youth Resource Centre Inc (MYRC) is a community based organisation servicing young people aged 12-24 living, working or attending school in, the Marrickville (Inner West) Local Government Area. 

MYRC provides after-school Recreation Afternoons, Free Computer/Internet access, School Holiday Activities, Young Men’s and Young Women’s Programs. Young people also have the opportunity to participate in Skills based projects including hospitality and retail industry training along with community arts based projects.

MYRC is seeking an Innovation and Practice Manager to develop better services and opportunities for young people in the Inner West LGA. These services include those mentioned below as well as individual support and case work with young people and their families.

People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island backgrounds are encouraged to apply

Essential criteria:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Youth Work/Social Welfare and demonstrated high level experience of working with young people with changing needs/challenging behaviours

• Demonstrated  experience in providing individual support, case work and referral for young people and their families

• Demonstrated experience in managing programs for and with young people, including the planning, implementation and evaluation as well as managing budgets

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal young people, young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds,  and those experiencing disadvantage

• Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining networks and relationships and working in partnership with other community organisations, government departments and Council

• Experience in writing reports, case notes, grant applications and acquittals.

Desirable criteria:

• LR license or willingness to obtain

• Senior First Aid Certificate

• Skills in music, art, sports or other relevant areas of interest for youth

Salary: $75,000 - $80,000

Date of Commencement: November 2019

• Your ongoing employment is subject to an appraisal to be completed by the Director on an annual basis.

• Your ongoing employment is also subject to recurrent funding (3 yearly)

Hours: 10am - 6pm Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9am – 5pm Fridays

Responsible to: On a day to day basis the Director and overall the MYRC Board of Directors.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and coordinate strategies around consultation with youth and community.

• Develop and implement expansion strategies for MYRC including project proposals and funding sourcing.

• Oversee project and program management for several MYRC projects especially those in which grant funding was secured and must be acquitted.

• Provide direction to best practice approaches within different portfolios of MYRC work.

• Collate existing MYRC research data and source accurate, reliable and relevant information to support relevant funding applications.

• Develop, revise and maintain MYRC Policy and Procedures.

• Provide support and resourcing to MYRC in their planning, development, implementation and evaluation of local projects and in managing general business.

• Work in, and contribute to a flexible supportive working environment.

• In conjunction with other workers, update MYRC website and social networking sites with information regarding MYRC projects.

• Collect statistical data on clients and the community using the services provided by MYRC.

• Work in collaboration with the other staff and volunteers of MYRC.

• Work in accordance with the centres Code of conduct and policy and procedure manual.

• Prepare reports on findings around consultation.

• Represent the MYRC to the community through services, activities, networks and partnerships.

• Support the involvement of services and young people in the MYRC activities.

• Participate in the overall planning, development and evaluation of the MYRC as a whole.

• Provide support and supervision to appropriate staff and line reports as required.

• Provide program updates to MYRC steering committee bimonthly.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To assist the development of services specifically targeted to the needs of young people (12-24yrs) according to the MYRC Charter.

2. Provide contact to a limited number of young people and/or their families including information and advice, support, and referral services.

3. Work under general direction of MYRC Steering Committee, applying a high level of knowledge and skills to achieve the goals of MYRC.

4. Oversee and coordinate the use of all resources available within the MYRC.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

• Assist in the research and development of programs, as well as assist staff in running programs.

• Work in partnership with professionals from other community organisations that support young people.

• Attend and resource the MYRC meetings that bring together program collaborators from different sectors.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

• Participate in individual supervision, & network meetings.

• Participate in Staff development and training activities as appropriate and approved by the Director.

• Participate in an evaluation process.

The position is subject to a probationary period of 3 months during which your performance will be reviewed. During this probationary period, either party may terminate the contract by giving the appropriate notice.
