(* 500 was paid in 2008; total paid in 2009 is 25,500)
49 PHILANTHROPIC INCUBATOR GRANTS IN 2009= 50,000
To encourage philanthropy among its younger members, the Beaird Family Foundation in 2009 matched their donations to nonprofit organizations at the rate of $25 per documented volunteer hour and/or $1.50 to $1 for cash donations. In 2009 the amount of qualified matches, $61,017.25, exceeded the amount budgeted to pay for them, which was “5% of the 5%,” or $37,523. On June 14, 2009, the Board of Directors voted to raise the budget for this year only to $50,000. Because of this, a formula of 0.8194404 was applied to the amounts which were donated, and the matching grants were paid on that basis. At its meeting on October 17, 2009, the Board approved a Philanthropic Incubator Committee proposal to clarify the program’s intentions and to set a new formula for paying the matching grants in future years.
