After elevating the tympanomeatal flap anteriorly, the ossicles were palpated, and the malleus and incus moved freely and the stapes was fixed. The posterior superior canal wall was curetted down after mobilizing the chorda tympani nerve, which was left intact. The stapes footplate was easily visualized and found to be markedly thickened. ................
