Some ideas for persuasive writing include:Argue for or against school uniformsPersuade someone to attend Mass with youArgue that competitive sports should or should not be eliminated from schoolsConvince your parents to buy you a cell phoneArgue that schools should or should not have vending machinesConvince your parents that you should receive an allowancePersuade someone to start recyclingArgue for or against violent video games being prohibitedPersuade someone that the team you picked will win the NCAA Basketball TournamentConvince your parents that you should be allowed to watch a certain TV show or movieYou may choose one of the above topics or an idea of your own. All ideas will be approved by Mrs. Sollenberger. You may choose one of three ways to demonstrate your persuasive writing skills. They are as follows:1. A five paragraph persuasive writing essayThe first paragraph is an introductory paragraph explaining your position. Do not start your paper with the sentence “I chose”, or “I am writing about”, or “My topic is”. Think of an interesting way to introduce your idea. You will present at least three reasons why your position is a good one. So, three reasons why someone should see your point of view or do what you are asking them to do. Each of the second, third and fourth paragraphs will detail one of these reasons and give supporting facts, details, examples and/or evidence. The last paragraph is your conclusion. You will restate your reasons and your position in an interesting way that tries to convince your audience. 2. A persuasive speech The persuasive speech will be the same as the five paragraph essay but spoken instead of written. You may use notecards, visual aids, and/or props if they help your speech. You will still need at least three reasons why your position is a good one with supporting facts, details, examples and/or evidence. You will need to hand in a rough draft of your speech written or typed out but not a final copy.3. A PowerPoint presentation with persuasive writingThe PowerPoint presentation will be the same as the five paragraph essay but in a presentation format instead of paragraphs. You will still need at least three reasons why your position is a good one with supporting facts, details, examples and/or evidence included in the PowerPoint.
