Resources and programs that provide assistance

A local non-profit organization, the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency (CAA), provides low and moderate income families with various services and resources that can help them pay bills and receive aid. The agency serves as a safety net, and its employees provide assistance with employment, heating and energy bills, supportive services, home energy efficiency, housing, youth programs, early childhood education, and rent help. Their main office is at 1740 Langdon Farm Road, Cincinnati, OH. Phone number is (513).569.1840.

Emergency assistance and grants

Their Supportive Services program will help families and individuals in emergency situations, and they will assist people in obtaining the resources they need for aid. Some of what CAA provide includes:

Mortgage and rental assistance programs. Find additional Ohio mortgage assistance programs.

Free prescription medications Bus tokens and transportation aid for individuals who come to our offices

for services Counseling and case management services Free vouchers for lifeline telephone assistance Food vouchers and pantry Debt counseling Water bill assistance programs Referrals to other agencies and other social services, such as assistance

Ohio Home Energy Assistance Program

Emergency HEAP You can get assistance if you apply to CAA and are found to be an an eligible household. Eligible households are those that are disconnected, threatened with disconnection or have less than a 25% supply of bulk heating fuel. Emergency HEAP program runs from November to March of each year.

Regular HEAP Will assist households with paying their winter time heating bills as well as summer cooling bills. The regular HEAP program runs from June 1st through May 31st. Eligibility for the HEAP program is families need to reside in Cincinnati or Hamilton County and earn a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Government Poverty Guidelines.

HAMILTON COUNTY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) This utility bill assistance plan protects households from disconnection of their service by allowing eligible customers to pay a portion of their household income each month to maintain their gas or utility service. People can sign up for PIPP year-round. Eligibility for PIPP is that people need to live in Hamilton County and have a limited household income. Call CAA for more information.

Duke Fuel Fund This will help individuals who are not disconnected, but who are still struggling with paying their electric or heating bills.

Ohio Home Weatherization Assistance Program This energy saving program provides energy efficiency services and home weatherproofing to qualifying individuals at no cost to them. The home weatherization program can result in a savings of 30% or more on home heating and energy bills, and it provides much needed assistance to families that are struggling during today's difficult economic times. The program offers several free improvements that can make homes more energy efficient, comfortable, and safe.

o Replace or service heating or cooling equipment such as furnaces, water heaters and HVAC

o Test and replace the refrigerator, installing Energy Star appliances when appropriate that will save people money

o Insulate the water pipes and heaters o Seal return ducts to ensure proper air flow o Perform whole house diagnostic testing to determine air leakage o Repair missing plaster/drywall and missing/broken glass in

windows o Insulate floors, attics, sidewalls, crawl spaces, and walls o Replace incandescent bulbs with energy saving compact

Cincinnati Works will help Franklin County and Cincinnati individuals find a job. The immediate goal of the organization is to land them in a stable job (even if it is not the highest paying) so they can begin to develop skills and get cash to pay living expenses. Reduced price or free medical care in Hamilton County Ohio

HAMILTON COUNTY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

If you do not have health insurance, or if your plan is not the best, Crossroad Health Center offers low to moderate income, and others who can't provide on their own, access to quality medical care. It is either free or low priced, and the organization does ask for any type of payment if you can make one. Those of patients are helped each and every year, and doctors and other medical professionals donate their time and services to this Cincinnati based clinic. Call them at 513-381-2247.

Get free or low cost dental care from CincySmiles Foundation. This Cincinnati medical facility provides qualified individuals with dental services. They focus on low-income, unemployed and the medically compromised individuals who are currently at high risk for poor oral health including unemployed, children, frail elderly and the disabled. Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. (513-221-4949) is another organization of medical professionals that is dedicated to serving the primary health care needs of the low income and uninsured community through high quality, professional, comprehensive health and medical services. They can refer people to such options as patient assistance programs.

Lincoln Heights Health Center is a local Cincinnati community health care clinic. Among other services they provide general check ups, immunizations, general dentistry, and WIC. Fees and medical bills charged to patients are based on a sliding scale. Dial (513) 588-3623.

Another option is the Sharonville Health Department. Phone number is (513) 563-1722. Fees will be based on a percentage on a households net income.

The Salvation Army of Greater Cincinnati

This non-profit agency helps all people in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky. Some of the programs and services they provide can help with rent payments, provide free clothing, offer money for paying heating and utility bills, energy bill crisis assistance, and much more. Free Food

The Freestore Foodbank, which can be reached at 513-482-4500, provides free food and even clothing to people in need of help. They also offer evening meals to hungry children throughout Cincinnati. They can also help people find safe places to live if they were evicted or are homeless.

A local agency wants to ensure fair and equal access to housing for everyone. So in that regards, Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) offer foreclosure assistance to Cincinnati families. Working in Neighborhoods (WIN) is also committed to stopping the foreclosure crisis in Cincinnati. Low income families can get access to free legal help programs from Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati (513-241-9400). they provide assistance with foreclosures, child welfare, housing, evictions, consumer, heating service disconnections, and employment-related issues.

Credit counseling

Get help reducing your debts, financial literacy, budgeting skills and economic education from SmartMoney Community Services. In addition, they also offer credit repair and Budget Counseling, advice, credit union services, access to hardship programs, credit card debt negotiation, matched savings incentives, homeownership counseling and entrepreneurship workshops. If you need help getting out of debt, need foreclosure help, or credit counseling, call Advantage Debt Management of America at (513) 563-4357. Rent assistance, help with utilities housing aid and counseling in Cincinnati

Santa Maria Community Services, which is located on State Avenue in Cincinnati, offers both homeowners and renters programs. Among the services they provide include mortgage delinquency, foreclosure counseling and mortgage default resolution advice. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center ? Homeless veterans can apply for assistance with paying for security deposits, rent, delinquent heating and utility bills, furniture, and other household furnishings needed to establish a stable living environment. Qualified homeowners can get extensive assistance from People Working Cooperatively, Inc. (PWC). The organization can give critical home repairs, updates and home modifications to lowincome, elderly, and disabled homeowners. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

If you need help paying your winter heating or summer cooling bills, or are facing a disconnection of your service, the LIHEAP program may be an option for you. The Healing Center This organization offers a variety of assistance to families in Cincinnati. Tutoring, job coaching, training, financial literacy classes, and long-term mentoring are available. In addition, clothing and food are available to anyone in need who is unemployed. (513) 346-4080.

St. Vincent de Paul Another charity organization that provides help with rent, utility bills, and other assistance. They also have an in-house pharmacy that will help lower income people in need who have lost their health insurance get affordable medicine and prescription drugs. Salvation Army This group is recognized for its social outreach programs, including job programs, job training, child and elderly care and also for providing emergency housing and helping with a financial emergency. A new foreclosure assistance program was started in Cincinnati within the past year when social workers noted that dozens of people coming in for help had lost jobs and that they were now in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure. The Homelessness Prevention Program Provides rent help and assistance with mortgage payments to ensure people do not become homeless. While many of the applicants here may not be eligible for Homelessness Prevention, they may be eligible to receive help from the Salvation Army's Emergency Assistance program.

HAMILTON COUNTY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Cincinnati mortgage and foreclosure assistance programs.

The Cincinnati Department of Community Development has created programs to help address the housing crisis in the region, and they coordinate free foreclosure prevention and counseling. Some programs they run themselves, some are offered in partnership with other local nonprofits, such as Cincinnati Ohio HUD housing counseling agencies.

Emergency Mortgage Payment Assistance

The Community Department Department can coordinate Emergency Mortgage Assistance. they have entered into a partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Ohio. Working poor, low and moderate-income homeowners and others who are struggling, and who may face foreclosure of their home due to job loss, death of primary wage earner, illness, reduction in work hours, or other circumstances beyond their control. Cincinnati who fall into one or more of these categories can receive special financial assistance and cash grants through this mortgage program to bring their home loan current if they have reestablished an income stream to continue future mortgage payments on their home loan. One-time financial assistance of up to $2,500 is available to qualified applicants of this housing program. In addition to receiving this cash, all clients also receive in-depth Emergency Mortgage Assistance counseling and access to a number of free foreclosure prevention services. Free Foreclosure Prevention - Homeowner Preservation Initiative

Working In Neighborhoods (WIN) as well as the City of Cincinnati are working together to provide counseling and assistance to residents who are in danger of losing their homes to a foreclosure filing. In addition, Working In Neighborhoods has also begun to partner with the Home Ownership Center of Greater Cincinnati, Smart Money, and the Better Housing League to also provide these services to as many homeowners as possible in the city. Under this particular housing program, homeowners will receive free counseling and intervention services. Details include the following:

The counselor will perform an initial assessment of the homeowners financial situation in order to determine the clients current financial as well as mortgage situation, their total household income and expenses. The mortgage and housing counselor will then proceed to review the client's income documentation, home loan documents, and bills they may owe. The foreclosure specialist will work with the client to develop a realistic budget as well as spending plan and determine the amount of mortgage they can afford to pay on a monthly basis.

The housing counselor will then contact the lender or bank, such as Bank of America (BOA) or Wells Fargo, to determine if loss mitigation or a loan modification is an option for the client. In addition, when feasible the counselor will work directly with the lender on the homeowners behalf to reduce fees, develop a workout plan, and/or refinance the terms of the loan to terms more favorable to the homeowner, and that also the lender can live with. HAMILTON COUNTY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

The counselor will do whatever they can in order to help the homeowner, and can provide them with access to alternative lenders or mortgage servicers in order to try to help them refinance the mortgage at a reasonable interest rate when feasible. The mortgage counselor will help the client apply for foreclosure rescue funding. Ohio Home Rescue Fund program is the program in Cincinnati can provide the rescue funds.
