Basic Life Support Instructor Course 2019Purpose and Intended AudienceTo enable healthcare providers to apply the skills necessary to become an instructor of Basic Life Support Courses.Objectives/Learner OutcomesUpon completion of the course, the participant will have:Demonstrated the key BLS instructor competencies:Set-up of the learning environmentPractice while watchingEvaluation of participants using criteria checklistTroubleshooting equipmentCompleted the written exam with a score of 84% or higher.Pre-requisitesProvide proof of current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support status.All required signatures on the Instructor Candidate Application including a signature that verifies instructor potential.Willingness to teach a minimum of four courses in a 2 year period.Being certified in BLS for at least 2 yearsPart 1: BLS Instructor EssentialsComplete all pre-requisites, registration form, instructor candidate form, alignment form, and submit them with a current BLS provider completion card and registration fee to UnityPoint Health-DM Training CenterAfter receipt of information participant will receive access to the online BLS Instructor Essentials Course to completeOnline portion is completed at their own pace (approx. 2 hrs). Participant MUST print and submit, at least 2 weeks prior to course, the completion certificate.Part 2: BLS Instructor CourseStudents must attend the entire day of the course and be prepared to complete the BLS provider skills and written exam during the course.Part 3: MonitoringAt the completion of the BLS Instructor Course, participants will be monitored by Training Center Faculty teaching their first course.This MUST be completed prior to instructors teaching independently.Must be done within 6 months of completion of the course, usually completed within 90 days.An additional charge for monitoring will be based on location:$50 at a UnityPoint Health-DM course$100 for a site other than UnityPoint Health-DM + mileageFaculty and Dress CodeFaculty: Certified AHA BLS Training Center Faculty Instructors, Regional Faculty Instructors, and Training Center Coordinator.Dress code: Business casual. NO blue jeans, shorts, or flip flops. MUST wear closed toe shoes. Continuing Education CreditCEs: IBON Provider #31, UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, awards 6.25 contact hours for full attendance.
