The text will combine strong content with interactive technology to maintain student interest and support active learning. Some of the items covered in this semester class will include contracts, criminal law, civil law, consumer protection, wills\estates, property law and other law associated information. Each chapter is divided into short, easy to handle lessons, while also setting a comfortable pace. With over 1000 cases, there will be no shortage of opportunities for case analysis and research. We will be using Schoology as a resource this quarter.We will also use email, IC, and Schoology to communicate with you during our classroom instruction during in class face to face and virtual instruction. The textbook is organized for success, and will enhance your over life as you learn more about the subject of law. Most students find that law is one of the most important and valuable subjects learned while in high school. Its impact will go much farther than just this classroom, learning about the subject of law will stay with you your entire life. We will be taking notes daily, as well as documenting law terms in your notebook. Study guides and end of chapter activities will also be used in the grading process. Tests/exams will also be given at the end of chapters for grading and learning purposes. Grading (Subject to Change)Homework = Approximately 30% of Grade Exams = Approximately 30% of Grade Final Exam = Approximately 10% of Grade Class Participation = Approximately 30% of Grade Grading Scale – Final letter grades are based on a total point systemA90-100%B80-89%C70-79%D60-69%F0-59Expectations and Other StuffRESPECT others (students, teachers, and guests) and the materials used in class!COMMUNICATION!FUN!!!Come to class everyday ON TIME, PREPARED and WILLING to participateNo food, drink, or snacks allowed in the classroom.The use of portable electronic devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, iPods, and video games, is prohibited during class time. Consequences for the use of prohibited items during class will be as follows: First Offense: Confiscation by teacher. Parent phone call from teacher. Student may pick up the device at the end of the day.Second Offense: Confiscation by teacher. Parent phone call from teacher. Parent must pick up the device from the teacher during the teacher contract hours of 7:20am to 3:20pm.Cheating: I will always catch you when you cheat so don’t do it! When you are caught: You will receive a grade of “zero” on the assignment Your parents will receive a phone call home?Late Work: Pending. Officially, only 2 late assignments will be accepted at 50% and all zeros after that. However, come see me and I will work with you on a case-by-case basis.You can turn in late workIf you miss a presentation and it’s excused, you will be allowed to make it up at my discretion. I will also set a date at the end of the semester for all late work to be handed in. No late work will be turned after that date. Passes: No bathroom or locker passes the first or last 10 minutes of class.You must bring your planner and I.D. to class in order to leave the room. If you do not have either item, I will take something else of value and we will work out a proper remedy. Attendance and Tardiness:You need to be here and be on time. There will be consequences for tardiness that will/may result in detention, loss of points, etc. It will be up to my discretion as I see fit.It goes back to respect and communication Availability: I will be available during 2nd block, before school and after school. Good Behavior/Attendance Incentive:As in “real-life” a person should be rewarded for doing the right things.
