SgtMaj Tellez enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1993 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton and Communications Center Operators Course, Marine Corps Communications Electronics School at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, CA.

After completing school he was assigned to 3rd Force Service Support Group at Camp Kinser, Okinawa where he served with Headquarters and Service Company as a Communications Center Operator. He later transferred to the Fleet Assistant Program to G-6 as Watch Supervisor for the Base Communications Center.

Following completion of the overseas tour he served with 7th Marine Regiment, Twentynine Palms, CA as a Communication Center Supervisor. During this tour he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and attended Corporal’s Course.

In April of 1998, he served as the Communications Center Supervisor for Marine Communications Detachment U.S.S. Blueridge, Yokosuka, Japan.

After the disbanding of the Marine Communications Detachment aboard the U.S.S. Blueridge he was assigned to Marine Forces Korea, Combined Forces Command, Seoul Korea. There he assumed duties as Communications Center Chief and Classified Material Security Custodian. While stationed MARFOR-K he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Following completion of his tour in Korea he was assigned to 9th Communications Battalion, I MEF Headquarters Group where he assumed duties as Small Systems Computer Specialist. He was then chosen to be the Battalion Primary Marksmanship Instructor. While at 9th Communications Battalion he completed Sergeants Course, Combat Marksmanship Instructor Course and Small Arms Weapons Instructors Course. During this tour he was promoted the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In October 2002, he reported to MCRD San Diego for Basic Recruiter School. Upon graduation he was assigned to Recruiting Station Sacramento, Recruiting Substation Modesto in Northern California. While assigned to RSS Modesto he was named Recruiter of the Month three separate months, Recruiter of the Quarter on two separate quarters and was named Recruiting Station Sacramento 2004 Recruiter of the Year.

After a successful tour on Recruiting duty, he reported to Marine Corps Communications Electronics School to attend Data Chief Course. During this course he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Upon completion of Data Chiefs course he returned to the Operating Forces and reported to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division from May 2006 to May 2007 where he served as the Data Communications Chief. While at Communications Company he attended the Advanced.

June 2007 to January 2009 he was temporarily assigned to duty and deployed with Regimental Combat Team 5 to Camp Ripper, Al Asad, Iraq where he served as the RCT’s Data Planner. During this tour he was selected and “Frocked” to the rank of First Sergeant. Before detaching from 5th Marine Regiment, 1stSgt Tellez attended the First Sergeant/Master Sergeant Seminar.

After returning TAD from 5th Marine Regiment back to Headquarters Battalion 1st Marine Division, he executed permanent change of assignment orders to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion. There he was assigned to Marine Special Operations Company C as the Company First Sergeant. While with MSOC C he successfully completed MARSOC Full Spectrum SERE, Senior Enlisted Legal Course and Urban Assault Leaders Course.

November 2009 to June 2010, he served as Task Force First Sergeant for the Special Operations Task Force 81, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan.

After a successful deployment to Afghanistan he attended the First Sergeants Course, Resident Senior Enlisted PME, Basic Airborne, Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Course, Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and met all requirements to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.

September 2011 to March 2014, he served as the Company First Sergeant for Production and Analysis Company, 3rd Intelligence Battalion, Okinawa Japan.

March 2014 to Present, SgtMaj Tellez serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 3d Maintenance Battalion, Camp Foster, Okinawa Japan.
