ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Snider High School leadership class will begin this Wednesday, January 30 at 8:00 am in the TLR. All students interested in learning about leadership, becoming people of influence on your athletic teams, band, classroom or your community are invited to attend. This class will meet every Wednesday throughout the spring semester.

Attention all AFTERNOON ICE students: If you were not in attendance at the mandatory meeting Monday, January 28th, please review the makeup work on your email or come see Mr. Norfleet in room E243 today please. Also please review your Power School for upcoming meeting dates. Thank you

Seniors! Have you completed your FAFSA yet?? Every senior must file their FAFSA no later than April 15th in order to qualify for State Financial Aid.  Each college or university can set a different deadline for their internal scholarships.  Most schools have February deadlines, so be sure to check with your school’s financial aid website for exact dates!

If you need assistance, Snider is having FAFSA help sessions during Parent-Teacher Conferences next week in the Media Center. See Ms. Shroyer at lunches to get a list of what you need to bring with you. Don’t miss out on FREE MONEY!!! If you have already completed your FAFSA please see Ms. Stills during lunch so she can ensure you are on the prize give away list.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who performed at the ISSMA DISTRICT VOCAL SOLO & ENSEMBLE contest on Saturday.

The following students qualified for the ISSMA STATE vocal contest in February: Darryel Amos, Max Eckelbarger, Sara Fortreide, Sean Findley, Olivia Holmes (perfect score), Jayden Lemon, Rachel Maciejewski, Grace Reiter, Ayesha Saeed, Bryson Smith-Wilson, Aryanna Swopshire and Meredith Woolsey

The following students received gold medal ratings in Group II difficulty level:  Camille Haines for a vocal solo and Olivia Overby for a piano solo.

In the Group III category, Melissa Summerlin received a gold medal for a piano solo.  The following students all received gold medal ratings for vocal solos:  Emma Bedwell, Madi Cocks, Avery Comparet, Mia Hill, Hope Inbody, Morgan Keller, Autumn Mason, August Montgomery, Regina Parker (perfect score), Kevin Ricketts, & Grace Sponseller.

Senior bowler Nariya Jackson qualified 4th at the South Bend Semi State over the weekend and will now compete at the state finals in Anderson this coming Saturday. 

The Snider gymnastics team battled horrible road conditions to compete at the Merrillville invitational.  9 personal best scores were earned.  Sophomore Xzonte Sanders had our top vault score, Junior Libby Vachon had our top bar score, Sophomore Kelena Johnson had our top beam score and Junior Galen Hancz-Barron had our top floor score.  Kelena Johnson performed a dynamic no fall beam routine!  The Snider gymnasts will compete tonight at Dwenger.  Go Panthers!

Varsity boys basketball lost a tough game vs Carroll Friday night, 58-51 in overtime. Airyan Thomas led the Panthers with 18 points on 6 3’s—5 in the second half—leading the Panther comeback. All 3 teams are in action Thursday at Dwenger.

The wrestling team finished as sectional runner-up.  11 Panthers advance to regionals next week at Carroll.  Emmanuel Ellis, Beau Humphrey, and Gianini Belizaire are sectional champs. Brady Ester, Hayden Tippmann,  Mekhi Spencer, and Jacob Kreager are runner-up.  Vertis Hawkins finished 3 rd.  Reakus Shelton, Elijah Talamantez, and Tavian Rucklos finished 4th.  Thomas Swartz finished fifth.

SENIORS - there are 200+ seniors who still have not ordered their cap & gown. If you have not ordered yours you need to. Remember you ONLY NEED cap/gown/tassel. If you are unsure if you have ordered, you can call 1-800-Jostens or see Ms Shroyer at lunch for the list. Website information is available in the main office.

The college rep from Franklin College will be here March 6th at 1:35. Please sign up with Mrs. Sorg in guidance today!

From Student Services…Student’s please be cognizant of your attendance. Per Snider’s attendance policy, students that accumulate a total of 30 period attendance violations (tardies, truancy, severe tardy) will not be permitted to attend extracurricular events including athletics, fine arts performances and PROM!

Student Drivers: Please ensure that you are parking in student parking spaces only (white lines). Tickets and tow trucks may be utilized for students parking in staff area (gold lines) and vehicles without any tags.

Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors – If you are interested in a 40 hour per week (6 weeks) PAID summer internship with 20 local companies in the Manufacturing Industry, please get with your teachers or counselors and view the online application for qualification purposes on Final date to apply will be January 31, 2019. Information is on the job board as well.

No National Honor Society meeting for January. The next meeting will be on Monday, February 18th.

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who are interested in learning more about potential manufacturing and skills trades careers after high school, see Ms. Shroyer during lunches for a permission slip to a job fair!

Students, are you looking for a way to become more involved at school and part of the Snider family? Come join the Academic Teams!! This year’s topic is “The Fertile Crescent” think ancient Egypt. We are meeting on Mondays, after school in room A145. See Mrs. Fisher for more information.

CONGRATULATIONS to Snider Senior Andrew Davis. He has won the Purdue University Computer Science App Challenge. Andrew had to submit a working App that showed a problem presented by Purdue Professors. Andrew defeated students from many other high schools from across the state including Carmel High School.

Students interested in Academic Spell Bowl, we are meeting Mondays and Thursdays after school in room A145.  See Mrs. Fisher for more information. 

Girls basketball will be conditioning Monday—Thursday from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
