The first activity I would like you to do this week is to make a Paper Aeroplane Catapult. To do this, you will need a piece of paper and an elastic band (a hair bobble or hair elastic should also work). First you need to make a standard paper aeroplane you have made your paper aeroplane, you need to put a hole with a hole punch on the bottom part of your aeroplane. If you don’t have a hole punch, you could make a hole with a pencil. You’ve made your paper aeroplane catapult! Put a pencil in the dangly part of elastic, pull back your aeroplane, and release! Once you’ve done this, put on your engineering hats. What happens if you put your hole in a different place? Does the aeroplane go further if the hole is at the front? Back? Middle? Please send videos of your aeroplanes! I am very excited to see how you get on, and whether you’ve found the best way of making them! TopicThis week I am going to give you a research topic. I want you to research an environmental issue, this seems like an especially good idea because last week was Earth day. Environmental issues are defined as problems with the planet's systems (air, water, soil, etc.) that have developed as a result of human interference or mistreatment of the planet. These are the main environmental issues effecting the planet:Climate changeDeforestationAir PollutionWaste disposalAcid rainI have linked each of these issues to a YouTube video to help you. This week we want you to research one of these areas. I have put a research sheet below for you to fill out. I have also put links to information for each of these environmental issues.Climate change might also be interesting to look into palm oil for this research project. Air Pollution disposal / recycling rain for an environmental issueWhat is the issue you are researching? What is it?Why is it a problem? How is it effecting the world? Why do we need to fix the problem? What facts have you found out? What will the future be like if we don’t do anything? What right (UN rights of the child) does this impact on?What can we do about this problem? Is there a way we can solve the issue?Any extra information?Once you have done your research I want you to think of a way to share your information. You could make a video presenting your information, or you could write a non-fiction text with all your information. Perhaps you could make a PowerPoint? Or maybe even a poster! ................
