Sacred Heart Catholic School will follow the guidelines set forth in the link below. Please note that these guidelines are subject to change with emerging news and developments due to the pandemic. Advisory CommitteeThe School Advisory Committee is a group that is charged with reviewing and advising administration with various school policies and issues that come up during the school year. SAC is composed of a number of parents, parish members, and Sacred Heart administration. As advised by the Archdiocese of Detroit, the School Advisory Committee has reviewed this handbook and given its recommendations on how best to proceed with the school year. Tuition and Tuition Refund PolicySacred Heart Catholic School is committed to fulfilling its mission of providing academic excellence, faith formation, and service inspired by the teachings of Jesus. Meeting this mission can come in many forms. Whether teaching takes the form of in-person learning or online instruction, our mission remains the same. Therefore the tuition schedule will remain as published. If a family wishes to withdraw from Sacred Heart, tuition will be refunded according to the policy stated in the handbook. The policy can be seen below:For students withdrawing from school at the request of the school administration at any time, a full pro-rated refund of all remaining tuition other than the registration, book and miscellaneous fees, will be made.Voluntary Withdrawal/Transfer:Students voluntarily withdrawing on or before August 20th will receive a 100% tuition refund, less the registration fee, book rental and miscellaneous fees. For withdrawal after August 20th, a refund of 75% of the annual tuition, less the registration fee, book rental and miscellaneous fees will be made. After the first Friday of the second quarter of the school year, a refund of 50% of the annual tuition, less the registration fee, book rental and miscellaneous fees will be made. After the first Friday of the third quarter of the school year, a refund of 25% of the annual tuition, less the registration fee, book rental and miscellaneous fees will be made.Any withdrawal after the first Friday of the fourth quarter will not receive a refund.Refunds can take up to six weeks to process. For purposes of calculating the amount of refund due as a result of a student’s withdrawal, the departing student will be considered the last child of the family. For example, if a family with four children in school withdraws one of its students, the refund will be calculated using the tuition rate for the fourth child of the family. Also, any grant money received will not be calculated in the refund. Health and SanitationPPE and MasksAll staff members will wear masks with the exception of mealtimes. StudentsAll students are required to wear a mask until further notice. Teachers will be required to provide a mask break for their students twice a day. This break will be done at the teachers discretion. A mask break will include walking outside for 15 minutes. This will be done on a rotational basis. If a member of the community cannot wear a mask for a valid medical reason, a doctor's note must be submitted and held on file in the school office.Sacred Heart will have extra masks and other PPE on hand for an emergency use. Students and staff are expected to provide their own PPE.Cleaning and SanitizingSacred Heart Catholic School has procured a number of supplies to prepare for the upcoming school year. At that point, we will evaluate the weather on a day to day basis. This policy will include mass days. Traffic PatternA traffic pattern is being created for all students and staff in the event of moving from classroom to cafeteria, dismissal, and other destinations. This traffic pattern will be enforced by staff to ensure fewer concentrations of individuals in the hallway. Technology at Sacred Heart Catholic SchoolOver the last few months, Sacred Heart has been working on targeting the best types of technology for the classroom and is in the process of purchasing those technologies for the classroom. These include:Chromebooks for student and staff useiPads for student and staff useWebconference cameras for staff use to record lessonsOnline standardized testingFreckle/Myon: web-based learning programsIn addition to purchasing technologies for the classroom, the staff have been working on developing lessons to use these technologies. Regardless of what the school year will look like, all teachers will introduce online learning to their students and use Google Classroom as a regular part of their curriculum. This will ensure that students will be prepared to transition to an online format in the event of a regression to stage 3. Optional Online LearningThe decision to send your student(s) to Sacred Heart is truly a difficult one this year. Balancing the social, academic, and health needs of your student(s) and family involves a great deal of thought and consideration. In order to assist with that process, Sacred Heart Catholic School will be offering an optional online learning program. This program will be offered to all students. Families interested will enroll for one quarter at a time.Tuition will remain the same as in-person tuition. Mrs. Bertini has accepted the position of assisting with the online program. Additional staff will be procured as needed. Overall, the program will include the following:The online teacher will work with the homeroom teacher to develop appropriate online lessons that reflect the learning that is happening in the classroom.Students will be required to “join” their classes at certain points of the day.Students will receive work via Google Classroom, Freckle/Myon, teacher-created videos and other resources. TestingSacred Heart has worked with the Renaissance company to provide beginning of year, middle of year, and end of year testing for students. This can be done in an in-person and online setting. Testing three times a year will allow for teachers to identify the strengths and areas for improvement of a student. The teachers will be able to target specific lessons that will target the individual needs of the student. Accountability and ExpectationsStudents are expected to attend all sessions that are relevant to their age level. Attendance will be taken for all streaming sessions.Due dates for all material will be enforced. Since this is an online format, students will require an ample amount of direction and instruction from his/her parents.Stage 3 Mandatory Online LearningIn the event that Sacred Heart is required to revert back to stage 3, online learning for all students will take the format of the optional learning format. At the beginning of the year, all teachers will introduce and include elements of online learning to the curriculum. This will provide a more seamless transition to online learning in the event of a shut down. ConclusionOverall, the Sacred Heart staff has worked very hard to ensure a quality education, despite our current conditions. No option is perfect, but we wish to offer the best possible options to meet your student and family needs. Please note that our plans are subject to change based on the current situation.
