American Airlines has served California for more than 75 years and has a rich historical connection to the state. On Jan. 25, 1959, American became the first airline to offer transcontinental commercial jet service with Boeing 707 flights between Los Angeles and New York. Following in the steps of the rich history Los Angeles is today of the airline’s cornerstone cities, along with New York, Chicago, Miami and Dallas-Fort Worth. American continues to grow in California, with American and American Eagle serving cities throughout the United States, as well as destinations in the Pacific, Europe, Canada, Mexico and Central America.

American and American Eagle offer nonstop service to 35 destinations and more than 267 daily flights from California, including:

• 153 daily departures from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

• 32 daily departures from San Francisco International Airport (SNA)

• 26 daily departures from John Wayne Airport (SNA)

From California, American Airlines serves a growing number of popular business and leisure destinations in the U.S. and around the world.

• American flies to 13 states and 6 countries from 12 California airports.

• American operates 267 nonstop daily departures to 35 domestic and international locations from California, including cities such as New York, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Honolulu, London and Tokyo.

Los Angeles is one of American’s five cornerstone cities and American has a strong domestic schedule at LAX that is growing internationally, especially to Latin America. By connecting to other American cornerstone cities – Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, New York and Chicago – Los Angeles travelers can fly anywhere they want to go in Latin and South America, Asia, Europe and beyond via the oneworld® Alliance.

• Starting April 5, 2011, American and American Eagle will operate 153 daily departures at Los Angeles, serving 14 cities in the United States as well as destinations in Asia, Europe, Canada, Mexico and Central America

• American will offer new daily nonstop service from Los Angeles to Shaghai, China, starting in April 2011.

American provides Los Angeles passengers with convenient, time-saving service via a network of Admirals Club lounges, self-service ticketing technology and customer service enhancements:

• American operates more than 40 Admirals Club locations in 38 airports worldwide. The Los Angeles Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge, located in Terminal 4, include quiet rooms, comfortable seats, complimentary WiFi, showers and a host of other amenities to keep customers comfortable and relaxed during their travels.

• American has 137 self-service machines in California – 42 of them at LAX. American continues to improve the customer experience across its network, including LAX, where it is expanding YADA (Your Assistance Delivered Anywhere), which gives agents the technology to serve customers anywhere in the airport, with the additional ability to print boarding passes. The airline also is increasing the number of skycaps on the curb to meet customers at their vehicles.

• American at LAX offers premium check-in – in the lobby – and dedicated security checkpoint lanes for premium travelers as well as new baggage scanning technology to enhance baggage reliability.

On Oct. 20, 2010, American and American Eagle announced plans to significantly increase departures from LAX

• 10 new destinations/cities – one international and nine domestic – for a total of 33 additional round trips, or an increase of 28 percent, up from 120 to 153 daily departures, beginning April 5, 2011.

• American also will offer seven additional daily flights from LAX, including two additional flights each to Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami and one additional flight each to Chicago, Las Vegas and Orlando.

• As part of the new service, four of the nine new American Eagle routes will give passengers the option to choose First Class on American’s new two-class Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jets.

• American also announced an expansion of the terminal at LAX from six to 10 gates, making boarding and arrivals more convenient.

Additional Upgrades and Changes

• Denver, CO – Denver International Airport (LAX-DEN will be upgraded from ERJ to CRJ-700s with four daily flights)

• Los Cabos, Mexico – Los Cabos Mexico International Airport (SJD) (an Eagle ERJ will supplement American mainline service on LAX-SJD with an additional daily flight)

The oneworld Alliance, of which American Airlines is a founding member, plays a prominent role at LAX, bringing together some of the best and biggest names in the airline business. Among them, these airlines provide 9,400 flights a day to nearly 900 destinations in more than 150 countries and territories.

• 6 of oneworld’s 11 partner airlines (American, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, LAN, Qantas) serve California, all to LAX. Between them these airlines average 253 daily nonstop departures to key business and leisure cities worldwide.

• Oneworld members offer 18 international destinations from LAX.

• oneworld is the only alliance with a truly global network, as the only alliance with member airlines based on all continents (except Antarctica and Africa) and the only alliance with member airlines based in South America, Australia and Asia’s Middle East.

In 2009, American and American Eagle carried 9.5 million people to and from California airports. American and American Eagle offer service from 12 California area airports, including:

• AMR Corp.’s presence in California supports 89,000 jobs in the state, impacting suppliers, consumer spending by employees, passenger spending, taxation and business transactions.

• AMR has an almost $9 billion annual impact to the California economy, according to estimates from a 2006 Campbell Hill study of the economic impact of aviation.
