NX3 Flight Controller Manual

NX3 Flight Controller Manual

VERY IMPORTANT:The gyro has to be re-calibrated to the center position upon initial installation to a new aircraft. Replacing the radio system, making a trim or sub-trim change within the transmitter will result in the servos moving to one side automatically when switching to hold mode. See Step 6 for the calibration procedure.

Features

1. Four Model Types are supported: single aileron, dual ailerons (flaperons), delta-wing and v-tail.

2. Three Flight Modes are supported:

a. Standard/Rate Mode: Gyro will make the corrections for stabilization.

b. Hold Mode: Gyro will be standing by for calibration (See Step 6).

c. Gyro ‘Off’ Mode: Gyro is disengaged and total control is given to the transmitter.

3. Two kinds of Gain Control Methods are supported: ‘Master Gain’ for the radio and ‘Independent Axis Gain’ from the Variable resistor on the NX3 board.

4. Using the gyro’s superior algorithm, the gain control options can be configured to a comfortable or more sensitive sense of control depending on your preference.

Specifications

1. Voltage Range:5-6V DC. (Do not use dry cell batteries!)

2. Dimensions:40mm x 25mm.

3. Weight:6.5g.

Packing List

1. NX3 Flight Controller Board 2. NX3 Manual

3. Servo Wire Set 4. Double-sided Tape

Status LED Description

LED OFF:NX3 is in ‘Off Mode’.

LED ON (SOLID):NX3 is in ‘Rate Mode’.

LED ON (FLASHING): NX3 is in ‘Hold Mode’.

WARNING: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STEPS VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE NX3 BOARD.

Step 1: Mounting

The board needs to be firmly mounted at the closest proximity to the center of gravity by using the double-sided tape that is provided. Please make sure the long side of the gyro is in line with the fuselage’s long side. After mounting, please check again if the board is firmly attached to the aircraft.

Step 2: Model Type Selection

The dip switches can be configured on the board to match the type of aircraft you desire to use. For example, Normal Airplane (Single Aileron), Normal Airplane (Dual Aileron/Flaperon), Delta-wing (Elevon/Flying Wing) and V-tail. Make sure to review the photo examples numbered from 1 to 4. If you change any of the dip switch settings, proceed with a proper start up procedure to enable the new setting to take effect.

Step 3: Wiring

Please connect the NX3 board and the radio receiver (RX) according to your specific flying setup by using the wires provided (See pictures 1 to 4). Pay attention to the polarities (colors) of the wires to avoid damaging the NX3 board or receiver.

Step 4: Master Channel Configuration

Assign a 3-position switch to the receiver channel that is responsible for the ‘AUX-IN’ port as shown in the pictures. This will allow to change the gyro flight modes during flight. If a 2-position switch is used, the NX 3 board can be switched between Rate Mode and Hold Mode, but it cannot be switched to ‘Off’ Mode. If a switch is not used for the ‘AUX-IN’ port, the gyro will be set to Standard/Rate Mode by default. You can configure the AUX-IN end points to change the positions of the switch settings if your transmitter has a Travel Adjustment function (End Point Adjustment) for that channel.

Step 5: Gyro Direction and Gyro Gain Configuration

Before flight you have to verify that the gyro’s directional corrections are precise; otherwise it could lead to losing control or even crashing during flight!

The gain pots on the NX3 board control the correctional gain (sensitivity) and direction for the following controls: pitch (ELE), roll (AIL) and yaw (RUD) axis.

5 o'clock = max gain in one direction

12 o'clock = zero gain

7 o'clock = max gain in opposite direction

To perform the response test, power on the

unit, pick up the aircraft and check it by

following the six steps below:

Step 6: Re-calibrating the Center Position

After assigning a switch on the transmitter, proceed with the following calibration procedure: Quickly flip the ‘Flight Mode Switch’ of your preferred transmitter three times between ‘Rate’ and ‘Hold’ mode within 1 second to calibrate the gyro.

Thanks for using the NX3 Flight Controller.
