Renting a Car

Renting a Car

Teacher: Wheel & Deal Rent-a-Car. Can I help you?

You: Good afternoon. I’d like to rent a car.

Teacher: Are you a regular customer?

You: No, this is my first time.

Teacher: In that case, I need to ask you a few questions. What’s your full name?

You: Elvis H. Sivle. S-I-V-L-E.

Teacher: Is that ‘B’ for ‘boy’ or ‘V‘ as in ‘van’?

You: ‘V’ for ‘van’.

Teacher: What’s your address, Mr Sivle?

You: 15 Saxon Street, Lincoln, LN1 3HN.

Teacher: And your telephone number?

You: My landline is 01246-424-812 and my mobile is 0776-327-2758.

Teacher: Do you have an e-mail address?

You: I do. It’s e.h.sivle@lincoln.co.uk.

Teacher: May I ask the renter’s age? Eighteen to twenty-four or over twenty-five?

You: Over twenty-five.

Teacher: Would you like an economy, standard or luxury vehicle, sir?

You: What’s the difference between economy and standard?

Teacher: The economy car sits four passengers and has three doors, whereas the standard vehicle sits five passengers and has five doors.

You: Then make it standard, please.

Teacher: Manual or automatic?

You: Manual, please.

Teacher: Would you like a GPS unit and air-conditioning?

You: A GPS unit, yes, but no air-conditioning. It’s hardly summer, yet!

Teacher: Are you travelling with children, Mr Sivle? As you know, child seats are mandatory and should be requested before collecting the car.

You: My children are over thirteen, so that won’t be necessary.

Teacher: Where and when would you like to pick up the car, sir?

You: At John Lennon Airport, in Liverpool, tomorrow morning at 9.00 a.m.

Teacher: And where and when would you like to return the car, Mr Sivle?

You: At the same spot on May 3rd at 7.30 a.m.

Teacher: Ten days at £150 per day makes a total of £1,500. Additional fees may apply if you plan to cross borders. Will you be driving the car cross countries, sir?

You: No, I just need it to move about the city and the surrounding villages.

Teacher: Will you be paying by VISA or MasterCard?

You: VISA’s fine.

Teacher: You will shortly receive a message from us confirming your reservation, sir. Please print it and take it with you together with your driving licence to our branch office at the airport. Would you like to purchase cancellation protection for twelve extra pounds, Mr Sivle? You would be entitled to a refund if you cancelled your booking twenty-four hours prior to the pick-up.

You: No, thank you. I’m not cancelling my reservation.

Teacher: The full amount of the rental charge is to be paid by you when collecting the vehicle. Make sure there are sufficient funds available on your credit card. Is there anything else I can do for you, Mr Sivle?

You: No, thank you.

Teacher: Thank you for choosing Wheel & Deal Rent-a-Car, sir. Goodbye.

You: Goodbye.
