Dear Principal/Counselor:

The Alpha Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Birmingham, Alabama proudly announces its annual scholarship competition. Several scholarships will be awarded to area high school seniors. The scholarships are awarded based on students’ essays and interviews. The students earning the highest scores will be the recipients of the scholarships. Presentation of these awards will be made at the students’ Honors and Awards Day Programs or at a separate program sponsored by the chapter.

Scholarship contestants must meet the following criteria:

➢ Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 ( copy of transcript to verify)

➢ Must include copy of ACT/SAT Scores

➢ Must have a counselor’s or principal’s recommendation (signature to be secured on the application)

➢ Must provide proof of acceptance to college in order for scholarships to be awarded.

The deadline for returning the application is 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Applications may be returned to the above listed address for Alpha Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, faxed to (205) 231-0217, or emailed to dhudson@bhm.k12.al.us.

Essay

The essay should include the following:

• Applicant’s name, school, and essay topic should be typed at the top of each page.

• Essay should be no more than two doubled spaced pages(8 ½ x 11), using a 12 point font, with one-inch margins addressing the following topic:

“What are the three greatest challenges you think you may encounter during your freshman year of college?

Once your scholarship application packet is received and reviewed, the scholarship chairman or committee members will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview date is listed below:

NOTE: Only to be completed by persons applying for scholarship on the basis of financial need.

Applicants applying for scholarships may do so on the basis of financial need. However, applicants considered for a financial need-based scholarship must meet all of the other requirements for the scholarship. Each contestant for the scholarship, based upon financial need, must provide verification of income along with the application form. Acceptable forms of income verification are limited to W-2(s) for 2020 or completed 2020 income tax return(s).

Please check to indicate your family’s gross income. Total gross income of contestant’s parents or guardians (not income of applicant) will be considered.
