Executive Summary

Apex Learning is pleased to have the opportunity to respond to the Alabama State Department of Education's (SDE) Invitation to Bid for ACCESS Virtual Learning Online Courses and/or Course Modules and offers this response to support the Alabama SDE in offering online middle and high school courses and course modules (Grades 6-12) in the following areas:

Standard and advanced courses aligned to Alabama standards College Board approved Advanced Placement courses Additional course offerings (electives) Remediation and supplemental resources and/courses Credit recovery To support Alabama SDE's needs, Apex Learning offers two digital curriculum solutions, each of which has been developed to address specific requirements: Comprehensive Courses -- in math, science, English, social studies, world languages, Advanced

Placement, and electives including Career and Technical Education -- address the needs of all students, from building foundational skills to creating opportunities for advanced coursework. Designed for original credit and efficient credit recovery, each Comprehensive Course provides a complete course of study that offers breadth of standards coverage, depth of instruction, and integrated formative and summative assessment. Apex Learning Courses are based on leading learning research and state and national standards including the Alabama Courses of Study and the Common Core. Tutorials meet the need for flexible digital content to support teachers in personalizing learning to provide remediation and supplemental materials to ensure students pass their courses the first time (reducing the need for credit recovery).

Apex Learning provides multiple digital curriculum solutions to prepare students for college and work.

Apex Learning supports education entities in setting high expectations for all students, and recognizes the need to meet each student at his or her individual level of academic readiness. From outperforming the national average on AP exams by 13% points at Iowa Online AP Academy, to 7.5 percentage point increase in the graduation rate at Houston Independent School District, to a 7.7 percentage point increase at Boston Public Schools, to a dropout rate that was cut by 50 percent at Sarasota County Schools, Apex Learning digital curriculum is proven to produce positive outcomes. Schools using Apex Learning digital curriculum are eager to share their success publically. This has resulted in a library of third-party research studies, client implementation stories, testimonials, and quotes that describe Apex Learning implementations and celebrate the outcomes achieved.
