Microsoft Office 365 is a critical course requirement for lab completion

You must use Microsoft Office 365. Previous versions of Office are not recommended as they will differ from the lab instructions. Access to the programs of Microsoft Office is a requirement for this course! System requirement: You need to have a PC with Windows installed to be able to download and install the Office 365.

Get Office 365 free from your school for students (Links to an external site.).

Follow the onscreen instructions. Look for the Download button on the Office 365 website, download and install the Office software for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Access is not included in this free download. We have the software available on campus in the library.

The web-based Office is a simplified version, you will not be able to complete the lab assignments with the required feature

Description

Students will study computer terminology, hardware, and software related to the business environment. The focus of this course is on business productivity software applications and professional behavior in computing, including word processing (as needed), spreadsheets, databases, presentation graphics, and business-oriented utilization of the Internet.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the fundamentals of Information Technology (IT) infrastructure components: hardware, software, and data communications systems.

2. Explain the guiding principles of professional behavior in computing. 3. Demonstrate proper file management techniques to manipulate electronic files and folders

in a local and networked environment. 4. Use business productivity software to manipulate data and find solutions to business

problems. 5. Explain the concepts and terminology used in the operation of application systems in a

business environment. 6. Identify emerging technologies for use in business applications. 7. Complete projects that integrate business software applications.

Evaluation

Teaching Methods and Methods of Evaluation:

1. Class Meetings: This class is completely online. I will assess your attendance depending on whether you log into the course and complete the assigned work every week. If you do not login to the course and submit work, then you will be absent for that week.2. Homework and Quizzes: Exercises, projects, labs, and other activities will be assigned on a regular basis. Assignments will require the use of a computer. Computer-based assignments can be completed on campus or at home, if you have a home PC with the appropriate software.3. Exams: The multiple-choice exam is timed but can be taken anywhere you have a computer with Internet access. 4. Internet: Some assignments for this course will require the use of the Internet. In addition, it is recommended that students take advantage of the resources (Web links, student study guide, practice online tests, interactive Student Edition Labs, and so forth.) available through the textbook's Web site. Internet work can be completed on campus or at home, if you have a home Internet connection.5. Grading: Letter grades will be determined based on the percentage of possible points earned during the semester, as outlined below.

A 90%-100% B 80%-89% C 70%-79% D 60%-69% F Below 60%

Assignment Percentage Breakdown:

Discussions/Reflections: 5% Labs: 20%

Quizzes: 15% Exams 1-3: 40% Final Exam: 20% Total: 100%

Pay attention to the due dates below:

Quizzes - Due dates are on the calendar. All quizzes must be done by 11:59 CST on the applicable due date. No late submissions are accepted and your lowest quiz grade is dropped. Labs - Due dates are on the lab icons and calendar. All labs must be submitted by 11:50 on the applicable due date. Late labs are not accepted. Once graded, students will have 7 days to correct and re-submit their labs if necessary for a final grade. The lowest graded lab is dropped.

No additional assignments are accepted late without a documented excuse such as a medical emergency.

EXAMS: All exams will be done on the server quiz module on Canvas.

Course Policies

ATTENDANCE: Attendance is necessary to pass this course. For web students, completion of assignments in the given time frame is considered attendance in the course. It is your responsibility to drop this course if you are not able to complete the requirements in the given time frame. Furthermore, students will be dropped from the course as a result of at least 3 weeks of consecutive missed assignments without any acceptable contact with the instructor. Common classroom courtesy and adherence to the guidelines in the student handbook are expected.
