Music Database for ________________________

You have decided to create a database of your music using Access.

• Save the file as music library in your database folder

• Using the information below create Music Database BUT before you start, READ THE WHOLE ASSIGNMENT to get all the needed information

Step 1 – In Design View enter the following Information (fill this out in pencil)

• Primary key = ID (use an autonumbered Access field)

• Close and save the table as music.

Step 2 – Create Records

Enter 20 songs of your choosing into your music library. Record the actual information for your songs. You must include:

• At least three different genres

• At least three different release years

• At least five different artists

• The song length in seconds. To calculate the song length in seconds, multiply the number of minutes x 60 then add the number of seconds. For example, a song that is 3:40 in length, would be (3 x 60 + 40) 220 seconds long.

Step 3 – Selecting a Genre

Create a Genre selection box in design view of your table so that only the following Genres can be chosen when someone enters a record into the table.

Step 4 – Creating and Using a form

• Create a FORM to enter the data. Customize the form with a title: My Music Collection

• Change the background colour of the form to Blue.

• Add an appropriate picture to the form.

• Make the font size of the title larger and bold so that it stands out.

• Enter the following information:

Step 5 – Query the database

• Create a new query to find only the songs that are 4:30 and longer. Save your query as Length.

• Create a query to find only the POP songs that were released in 2005 or later. Save your query as 2005 POP

• Print each query result. Make sure your name is on the page.

Step 6 – Report on the database

• Create and print an attractive report based on the music table. Include all field names.

• Group the report by Genre and Sort in ascending order by Artist.

• Choose a stepped layout and landscape orientation

• Name the report Your Name’s Music

• Add an appropriate picture in the header

• Add a line at the bottom that shows the Total Seconds and shows the sum of all the song lengths in your library.

• Add a line under Total Seconds that shows Total Minutes and converts the total seconds of your library into minutes with one decimal.

• Preview to ensure it fits on one page. Your name must be in the report title before you print.
