Write an inequality for each situation.
In question (a), can the speed be all real numbers less than or equal to 65? Explain.
In question (b), are all real numbers greater than or equal to $6.15 reasonable solutions to the inequality? Explain.
Define a variable and write an inequality to model each situation.
1. A bus can seat at most 48 students.
2. In many states, you must be at least 16 years old to receive a driver’s license.
3. It is not safe to use a light bulb of more than 60 watts in this lamp.
4. At least 350 students attended the band concert Friday night.
5. The Navy’s flying squad, the Blue Angles, makes more than 75 appearances each year.
Define a variable and write an inequality to model each situation. Then solve the inequality.
6. The maximum safe load on a chair lift is 680 lbs. In the spring, a cyclist and a bicycle go to the top of the slope using the chair lift. The weight of the person is 124 lbs and the weight of the bicycle is 32 lbs. Write an inequality to describe how much additional weight the chair lift can carry and then solve.
7. Your baseball team has a goal to collect at least 160 blankets for a shelter. Team members brought 42 blankets on Monday and 65 blankets on Wednesday. Write an inequality to describe how many blankets the team must donate on Friday to make or exceed their goal and then solve.
8. You receive a weekly allowance of $25. You spend $10 on school lunch and save at least $7 each week. Write and solve an inequality to show how much you have left to spend each week.
