Important Note to Students:
PRE GED® is an intermediate mathematics course designed to prepare students for the GED course. The course consists of twelve three-hour presentations covering math concepts from decimals and percent through basic geometry, algebra and statistics. Before entering this course, students are expected to already know how to compute basic math problems including subtraction using borrowing, multiplication tables through nine, division of whole numbers and adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Some of these concepts will be briefly covered in class. PRE GED® lessons will repeat the same information every twelve weeks but will only be covered once during each twelve-week course session. Students will input only at the beginning of the course and cannot miss more than two classes. Concepts missed when late or absent must be learned through outside sources such as “KHAN Academy” YouTube presentations, worksheets/lessons found on the internet, or various library textbooks. This process must be completed on an individual basis outside of class time. Assistance through the Harford Community College Tutoring Center can be sought. Students are expected to provide their own pencils and paper. The PRE GED® course contains some internet home practice assignments; therefore, students without internet access must go to their local library or Harford Community College for this capability. Students must complete all home practice assignments prior to class. Following successful completion of this twelve week course, students are prepared to advance to the GED® course.
