Family Fun NightsWe will be having family fun nights occasionally throughout the school year. The dates will be included on the preschool newsletter. These nights are intended for the family, so we encourage you to bring the whole family. Here is a list of possible theme for the family fun nights: Grandparents Night, Make-It and Take-It Activities, Farm Night, and Spring Fling. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather.HomeworkEach child will be given a folder which will be sent home on Tuesday/Wednesday of each week. The folder will contain homework pages, and any other important notes and information. Please send the folder back to school each Thursday/Friday. The homework will focus on the letter and other skills we are working on that week in class. It is not mandatory for students to complete the homework, but I recommend you encourage them to do it. If you will send the homework back in their folder we will mark that we have looked at it and send it back the next week for you to keep. There will be no homework assigned in the Early Childhood Special Education Classes.HandwritingWe are presently using block style handwriting. We have included a copy of the capital and lowercase letters at the back of this handbook. We will be working with the students on learning to write their name. When you practice with them at home, please make sure your child uses a capital letter at the beginning of their name and lowercase letters for the others. It can be difficult to break the habit if they become used to writing their name in all capital letters. There will be name tracer practice sheets on the back of one of the homework sheets each week.Book Orders/Book Fairs We will send Scholastic book order forms home each month. This is an inexpensive way to provide quality books to your child. If you order, please fill out the order form and include it with the money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. If you write a check, make it out to Scholastic Book Clubs. It will take approximately two weeks for the books to arrive and be sent home. The school will also have two book fairs in the elementary library. Flyers will be sent home advertising the book fairs. The Early Childhood Special Education classes will have the opportunity to order books through PAT.Library BooksThe preschool students will begin checking out books from the PAT library in September. They will have the opportunity to check out a book each Tuesday/Wednesday. They will have to return each book before being allowed to check out another book. We will ask that a fee of $2.00 be paid to replace any books that become lost or destroyed. The Early Childhood Special Education classes will not check out library books.Parent InvolvementWe encourage parent involvement. Let us know if you are interested in visiting or volunteering in the classroom. Our goal is to help your child have a positive start in school. We also want all students to enjoy learning. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher at anytime with questions or concerns. We look forward to a great year! ................
