October: Kids for Kids Walk - The Kids for Kids Walk is a fundraiser to support Hospice of Central Pennsylvania’s Camp Dragonfly – A bereavement camp held over one weekend every Spring to offer a caring, supportive environment for bereaving children. All members are expected to attend the walk which will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm. at Landis Field.

November: Humane Society – We conduct an all-school drive for donations (for example: paper towels, food, toys, blankets, etc…) that will be given to the Harrisburg Humane Society. One after school meeting will be held to make signs, sort and deliver fliers. Items will also need to be organized the morning of pick up. All members are expected to donate one item.

December:

Candy Canes - Volunteers will sell grams for candy canes for approximately 1 week in the school foyer. One after school meeting will be held to assemble the grams and organize them by homeroom. Delivery of the candy cane grams will be done the following morning during homeroom. All members are expected to bring in two boxes of candy canes and proceeds from the sale will go directly to the CDMS NJHS.

February:

Valentine Grams - Volunteers will sell grams for lollipops for approximately 1 week in the school foyer. One after school meeting will be held to assemble the lollipop grams and organize them by homeroom. The grams will be delivered the following morning during homeroom. All members are expected to bring in two bags of lollipops and proceeds from the sale will go directly to the CDMS NJHS.

March:

Read Across America – To celebrate Dr. Seuss Day, students travel to an elementary school to read a Dr. Seuss book and teach an activity directly related to the book. Volunteers will meet after school to choose a Dr. Seuss book and create their activity.

PI Day – To celebrate PI Day (3.14), we will be selling whoopie pies during the month of March and students may purchase as many as they like to have for their lunch on 3/14. All proceeds go to the CDMS NJHS.

Throughout the Year:

Helper – Volunteers will work one-on-one with students in Ms. Ash and Ms. Heath’s classroom to read, tutor, assist with socialization skills and/or offer homework help. This will occur during period 9 (Academic Enrichment) approximately one day per 6 day cycle.

Recycling Committee – Volunteers will work in groups of 4 to collect the recycling from each room in the building. This will occur every Wednesday morning during homeroom and each group will have a designated area.

Announcement Committee – Volunteers will report to the Main Office at 7:35 a.m. to read the daily announcements and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. You must speak clearly and loudly. Failure to do so could cause you to be removed from the committee.

Word Generation Committee – Volunteers will report to the main office approximately 1 or 2 cycle days to count out the word generation packets for each homeroom.

Power Pack Committee – Central Dauphin School District sponsors this program to pack grocery bags with food for students in our school district who are less fortunate than us. This committee will rotate on a schedule to unload the delivery truck here at CDMS – the new location of the program. Opportunities to pack grocery bags after school may be available throughout the year.
