Landscaping Division Task Analysis

Overview

The Landscaping Maintenance Division serves the City of Hallandale Beach by maintaining the grounds for all City–owned properties which include Scavo, Ingalls, Golden Isles, Johnson, Bluesten, B. F. James, Sunrise, and Sunset parks and beaches, Municipal Complex, street medians, Fire Departments, Hepburn Center, Tennis Center, vacant lots and various right-of-ways, a total of approximately 57.4 Acres (See Attachment A- Map). As part of the maintenance, City crews fertilize, cut, edge trim and provide weed control to all assigned areas. This division is also responsible for the maintenance and physical operation of the Cemetery, as well as the ball fields.

Responsibilities

The Landscaping Maintenance Division is responsible for beautification projects, beach cleaning, and installation of irrigation systems and for the annual Holiday Lights Award Program. This division also sponsors the Beautification Award Program which encourages residents to beautify the community by keeping a well maintained and aesthetically pleasing landscape.

Maintenance Scope of Services

As part of the lawn maintenance, the landscaping division provides these services (See attachments):

• Mowing service

• Hedges

• Spraying

• Fertilizer

• Trimming and pruning

• Weeding

Mowing service includes but is not limited to:

-Cutting all lawn areas, field grass areas, side grass strip areas, highway grass

median areas, open grass lawn areas next to the curbs, sidewalks, patio and parking

lot areas.

- Edge all areas next to sidewalks, walkways, curbs, patio, driveways, parking lots,

plaza, headstones, grave site markers, tree rings, landscape beds and roadway areas.

-Pick up all debris, tree limbs, cutting, or grass clippings related to grass mowing and

edging service. Remove all debris from sidewalks, driveways, roadways, walkways,

and parking lots.

-Edge all trees, palms, curbs, tree rings, sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots,

patios, plazas, landscape beds, signs, markers, grave headstones, fences, pond-lake

water lines and all other areas related to grass mowing.

-Athletic fields are to cut with proper turf rotary blade mowers only.

-All equipment to be proper accepted standard lawn maintenance equipment only.

Hedges-Shrub maintenance:

- All hedges and shrubs are trimmed as needed or required for proper site management

at a standard height.

-All landscape beds are mulched 2 times each year with City approved mulch product.

-All hedges-shrubs include groundcovers, accents, ornamentals, potted plants, small

palms and small trees.

Spraying:

-Shrubs, hedges, trees, palms, ornamentals sprayed with proper industry accepted

Insecticides and weed killers.

-Turf/spraying for weeds as needed

-Plant spraying for insects as needed

-Curb and parking lot spraying for weeds as needed.

-Landscape median spraying for weeds as needed.

-Lawn-turf insecticides applied as needed to control insects and weeds.

Fertilizer:

-The lawn-turf areas are fertilized 3 times a year one in the Fall, one in the Spring and

one in the Summer.

-The shrubs-hedges are fertilized 3 times a year one in the Fall, one in the Spring and

one in the Summer.

-The trees, palms and ornamental are fertilized 3 times a year one in the Fall, one in the

Spring and one in the Summer.

-All the athletic fields are fertilized and sprayed for weeds one a month to maintain turf.

Weeding:

-The weeds are addressed daily with a two man crew year round.

Beach Clean Up

-The trash cans art emptied daily seven days a week.

-The beach is raked and fluffed daily seven days a week.

-Storm Clean Up

-Helping other divisions when necessary
