CURRENCY

In Belize, the national currency is the Belize dollar; in Costa Rica, it is the colon; in Panama, U.S. dollars are the standard currency; in Argentina, it's the Argentine peso; in Colombia, it's the Colombian peso; and in Peru, it's the Peruvian sol. U.S. dollars can be exchanged at banks and hotels. Major credit cards are accepted in most larger establishments and using local currency is suggested at smaller establishments.

ELECTRICITY

Electrical voltage in Belize, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia is 110/120 (same as in the United States). Some electrical sockets do not accept three-prong or polarized plugs, so it is recommended that you travel with an adapter. Electricity is 220 volts in Argentina and Peru. Converters are required for appliances and electronics.

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS

A valid U.S. passport is required for all U.S. citizens regardless of age when traveling between the United States and Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina, Colombia and Peru. For the most current guidelines, visit travel.. Departure taxes/fees may apply depending on destination.

CLIMATE

The tropical climate is warm and humid year-round with no real winter for Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Peru. The wet season in Belize runs June to December; in Costa Rica it's May to October; in Panama it's May to December; in Colombia it's April to May and September to November; and in Peru it's November to April. Average daytime temperatures range between 75 F in the coldest months to 88 F in the warmest.

Argentina's climate ranges from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the extreme south, however most of the country is relatively temperate. For a multi-destination vacation that includes hot and humid Buenos Aires and a visit to icy Glaciers National Park, you'll want to pack a varied wardrobe. November through March is the most popular time to travel to Argentina.

TIME ZONES

Belize, Costa Rica, Colombia and Peru are on Central Standard Time year-round; Panama is on Eastern Standard Time year-round. Argentina Time is UTC-3 (Coordinated Universal Time), which is two hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time is not observed in these destinations.
