|Description of Project: |California League of Middle Schools(CLMS)is requesting an Investing In|

| |Innovation Fund |

| |development grant for the project, CLMS English Learner Families For |

| |College: Moreno Valley USD. Families For College addresses Absolute |

| |Priority 3 - Improving School Engagement, School Environment, and |

| |School Safety and Improving Family and Community Engagement; |

| |Competitive Preference Priority 8 - Innovations to Address the Unique |

| |Learning Needs of Students With Disabilities and Limited English |

| |Proficient Students; and Competitive Preference Priority 10 – |

| |Technology. The project would implement a multi-layer, five-year |

| |system of |

| |support for 360 high-need English Language Learners and their families|

| |from the students’ entry into 6th grade until the fall semester of |

| |10th grade. Components include an ELA-English 3D middle school block |

| |concentrated on academic language; a multi-year family academy so |

| |parents may understand and monitor student academic progress toward |

| |college; electronic peer mentoring from older, high-performing peers; |

| |and more. The major objectives are to (1) improve students’ |

| |achievement and growth enough in middle school so they may access |

| |college |

| |preparatory curriculum in high school, and (2) to create welcoming |

| |environments and structures to invite parent participation and |

| |leadership in 10 middle and high schools to promote family engagement |

| |in the school communities. Families For College will follow a cohort |

| |of 360 students and their families but provide similar services to a |

| |total of 1,080 students and families. |

| |CLMS’ official LEA partner is Moreno Valley Unified School District; |
