NAMES OF GOD – JEHOVAH - Bible sermons

NAMES OF GOD – JEHOVAH

Jehovah was derived from the Hebrew word ‘chavah’ which means ____ ________.

In most Bibles it is written LORD all capitals. It means ____ ____.

We studied the name of God ‘Elohim’ and found it used as powerful Creator. When we look at Jehovah we find it is used as the Revealing One. He reveals himself as the intimate personal God. The more you walk with Him the more He reveals of himself.

Jehovah also denotes the ___________________ of God. James 1:17 Ps 102:27

Jehovah is! He transcends time. That is why He told Moses that He was the I AM. He lives in the eternal now. All time is present with him, for He exists exactly the same through it all. He does not learn through an experience or weaken when He acts. He is always the same infinite unchanging Jehovah. Those I AM bumper stickers crack me up.

Exodus 3:4-8 Elohim calls Moses but it is the name Jehovah that reveals the understanding of the pain of Israel. He is Jehovah that cares about our troubles. vs 14 is the revelation of his eternal existence. vs. 11-12 Jehovah that can aid us and teach us.

It is interesting to note that all the plagues of Egypt had something to do with things the Egyptians worshipped. Jehovah was trying to show them He alone is LORD. When they left Egypt it says they were a mixed multitude. I wonder how many were Egyptian converts.

Lev. 19:2 I Jehovah your Elohim am holy. Holiness demands judgement and justice. Ex 32:10-11,12 Moses appealed to the One who had revealed himself to Egypt. vs 13,14 But sin still had consequences, Ex 32:26-28 Is God still that severe? Ro 8:6 Ex 32:33-35

Ex 33:14,15/19-23 Jehovah the Revealing One reveals himself to Moses.

Zechariah prophesied that one day we would look upon Jehovah whom we have pierced.

That tells us that Jehovah is one of the names of Jesus. Since Jesus is a revelation of God who is a Spirit, we can see that He is Jehovah the Revealing One.

ps. The verse from last week is Gen 15:2 – Abe wanted a confirmation of the covenant with the Mighty God – Elohim.
