Documentation for: 2006-2007 State-to-State Migration Flows

A. File characteristics:

ASCII language

Filenames = stateinflow0607.dat (for in-migration flows)

stateoutflow0607.dat (for out-migration flows)

Record length = 82 characters

B. Records Included for In-Migration Flows:

The file contains records for the state level migration flows to each state

in the U.S. (including the District of Columbia) from other states in the

U.S., from foreign, and for non-migrants. There are 3 total records for

each state, representing the total of all in-migration flows from other

states. The 3 total records are:

1. total of all in-migration flows from other states

in the U.S. and from foreign;

2. total of all in-migration flows from other states

in the U.S.

3. total of all in-migration flows from foreign

There are also 3 similar records total records representing the sum of all

in-migration flows for all states in the U.S.

Records are included for all in-migration flows, however, some data may be

suppressed. It is replaced with the value "-1" if the data is based on

less than 3 returns. For example, if state-to-state flow from VT to ND

was suppressed, then the values for the flows VT to SD, NH to ND, and NH to

SD were also suppressed to prevent rederivation of suppressed data.
