Introduction! Super Fun TV Hour
Super Fun TV Hour is a framework for creating your own super sentai campaign. The super sentai genre is surprisingly under represented in tabletop RPGs, which is odd considering its rich source material and pre-established tropes. Just the fact that sentai teams are so often in groups of five makes them ready made for the gaming table. We will help you create the sentai genre in your own Fate Games. Whether it's the kung fu and rubber monsters of Power Rangers, the magical camp of Sailor Moon, or the giant robots of Voltron, Super Fun TV Hour will help you get there. The key to creating successful sentai games is to deconstruct the genre and decide how to architect your Fate game to best embody the constituent parts. We hope you enjoy Super Fun TV Hour at least as much as we've enjoyed making it!
Groups of Five
The Tough Guy
Most sentai groups come in fives, which is a great number for an RPG group. It is certainly possible to have your sentai group be four, or three, or even six, but five seems to be the perfect fit for a satisfying web of relationships around the table.
This trope shows up in nearly every super team that has ever been created. The concept of someone who is physically imposing with limited intelligence is deeply ingrained in storytelling. In sentai fiction though, The Tough Guy is rarely a dumb lug. They are often portrayed
Another important distinction is costumes of matching styles with separate colors. The colors are the dominate feature of a sentai teams' superhero personas.
The members of a Super Fun TV Hour group fall roughly into the following tropes.

The Leader
Someone deeply committed to both the team and their mission. The leader is not the star of
as deeply empathetic, such as Voltron's Hunk, or with a chip on their shoulder like Raphael. This role can be combined with The Rebel, for a satisfying antihero. The Tough Guy will emphasize Physique and Athletics, and possibly Fight, though a Tough Guy with points in Craft could be a memorable mechanic. The trope can also be played as shy, such as Sailor Jupiter, who while the strongest of the group, was also emotionally the most vulnerable. They are given the colors yellow, orange, or green.
the show, and may even be disliked by some due to their diligence to the cause. In Fate terms, the Leader would have strong Will and Notice (because of their tendency to take the lead by going first.). Examples: Sailor Moon, Leonardo, Keith Kogane, and the Red Power Ranger. Their color is usually Red or Blue.
The Brain
The Posh One
Wealth and a deep concern for personal appearance best describe The Posh One. Not all sentai groups use this trope, though it is strongly represented in many super teams. Think Cordelia from Buffy. The Posh One is often portrayed as oblivious to the feelings of others, though still charming. This archetype also has a deep need for attention, and is sometimes willing to work amorally to get that attention. Examples in sentai fiction are Sailor Venus, Kimberly Hart (The Pink Ranger), and dare I suggest, Posh Spice? The Posh One can combine well with The Brain or The Rebel, creating either a Mad Scientist obsessed with others perception of him, or a snarky valley girl, always ready with a bon-mot. Resources, Rapport, and perhaps Contacts would be excellent skills for The Posh One to have in spades. Their colors are typically purple, pink, or white.

Second only to The Tough Guy in consistence of appearance, The Brain is a nerdy, socially awkward caricature. They are the scientists, technicians, or doctors of the team. Their cerebral nature makes this trope a poor combination for anything but The Leader or The Goofball. The Brain tends to avoid interparty tension. In fact, they can cause more in their awkward attempt to avoid it. However they also tend to be The Leader's most trusted confidant. Examples are Pidge, Sailor Mercury, The Blue Ranger, and Donatello. The most common color for The Brain is blue.
The Goofball
Though it is easy to discount this archetype as without utility, the goofball is a fundamental part of a sentai group. The goofball is the glue
that keeps a team together. They may be played as delightfully clueless, and at times a liability to the team. However, they are often the unwitting drivers of plot and action as they pratfall their way through a story. The goofball is portrayed as having a big heart and little brains. It is important to them to have peace between the teammates, and they are willing to sacrifice to make sure that happens. Good skills for The Goofball are Empathy and Rapport. Think of the Goofball as both outgoing and fun-loving. The best examples would be someone like Michelangelo, or Xander.
While this can make for good fiction, it is tough to pull off in RPG groups while balancing everyone's need to have fun. Lance McClain, Wolverine, and Raphael all represent this trope well. Skills include Fight, Stealth, and Notice (as they are often spotting things the others miss, then going off on their own to investigate).

The Rebel
A risky trope to play, the Rebel/Traitor often comes up in ensemble fiction. It is the character that suffers the most friction with The Leader, and often tries to go it alone. The Rebel can also be a witting or unwitting traitor to the team. This trope may also be the most skilled at fighting, putting them at even further odds with The Leader. They can feel their individual contributions are overlooked. At times interparty relationships can switch from simmering tension to outright rebellion or backstabbing.
