Use Ctrl-F to find information. Last updated: February 13, 2013

Many of the changes are from Charlou Dolan. More changes to come.

I have split this family into 2 charts, it was too large to pull up as one chart.

NOTE: WALKER is a very common name. Those involved in this research try to find correct information. However, if you take this as “FACT”, you could be in trouble.

There are so many John Walker, Samuel Walker, Henry Walker, etc etc. Sometimes it is hard to determine which is which. If you have updated information, please let me know. Thanks Kathy

1. This document is by generations. A number has been assigned to each person, it is shown to the left of the name.

2. If the person you are looking at has a + to the left of their number, then there are more generations listed.

3. USE ‘BACK’ to return to previous page, if you are using Explorer.

If you are using AOL, CLICK FILE, and EXIT.

For NETSCAPE use LEFT ARROW, to return to previous page.

If you want to print the chart, you DO NOT have to print the whole document, only the pages you need!! Find the page you want to print. This is usually in the lower left corner. When you send the page to print, specify which page or pages you want to print.

5. From Mark Freeman's website:

“The information on the descendants of Robert Walker was provided by James Opfell, W. E. McClelland of Fallbrook, CA and William Reese Walker of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, who compiled information provided by several sources over many years. Information I generated and personally researched is from the descendants of Joseph Burch Walker and Rebecca Jane Ridley. Other researchers continue to add information…..”

6. The Gould family is from ****Arthur Gould. Added May/June 2003.

7. **Ken Walker and ***Mike Walker added information July 2006.

A lot of other family members have done research on the Walker Clan. A lot of information from these sources contradicts each other. So I have, for the most part, picked the ones most likely to be correct. In some cases listing both sets of information.

Example: One fact had a mother having children until she was 70 years old. I have used another source to find she was about 40.

2. Another website for early Walker information is:

3. The earlier Walkers do not have good dates, so we use Robert Walker b.abt 1630 etc. He was the first we know about. Some has his birth about 1650. But this seem's to late for the later generations.

"We believe that our ancestor Robert Walker lived in Scotland, Tarbolton, Ayrshire before 1665, and fared well until the restoration when he was arrested and fined for selling and 'weaving lining cloth' in defiance of English laws pertaining to Scottish persons. It was prohibited by newly enforced regulations promulgated by the Restored Monarchy.

He was raised near Glasgow, Scotland. Migrated to Ireland, signed allegiance to King William at the siege of Londonderry, 1688-9.

In 1689 he and his son, James b abt 1660 are on the rolls of inhabitants of Londonderry, Ulster, at the time of the siege, by forces under James II and Lord Tyrconel.

In 1718, a group of Ulster Scotts, two Roberts, a William and a James Walker were among those living in N Ireland who petitioned Gov. Schute of Massachusetts for permission to immigrate to the American colonies, which request was subsequently granted.

With six of James Walker's sons taking advantage beginning after 1730, three, James Henry and Andrew locating east of the Susquehanna River, and three others Samuel, Robert and William on the western side. Estates are in court records for those east, but there are none for the three western Walkers." James Opfell

4. July 2006: Received email from Mike Walker. He corrected the place of birth from Torbolton to Tarbolton.

5. July 2006: From Mike - "Tarbolton is famous as the home place of Robert Burns and his famous Bachelors Club. It is south of Glasgow in Ayrshire."

6. Jun 2010: Walker website

" Tarbolton in the region of West Ayrshire and is not far from the city of Glasgow. It is in this area where it is believed that our Scottish Walker Family originated. Not particularly a coastal area but a lowland rolling hill area situated some 5 miles inland. A very fertile area with many farms even to this day."

"We were able to visit Tarbolton in Ayrshire for a short while and stroll through the old parish cemetery or "Kirk Yard" where even today there are remnants of the Walker Family. Sadly none of the headstones I saw relating to the Walkers dated from the 17th century when it is believed our ancestor Robert lived there."

"The parish of Tarbolton is situated in an area called Kyle in the middle district of Ayrshire. It is surrounded by the parishes of Craigie, Mauchlin, Stair, Coylton, St Quivox and Monkton. It is a raised tract of land about seven miles in length, and about six miles wide. It is situated about five miles from the sea and its elevation is above sea level. "

7. Mar 2011: Yvonne Ellwood's website found problems in my information.

6 iv. Samuel Walker, born Abt. 1694 in Letterkenny, Donegal, Northern Ireland. He married Elinor ?; born Abt. 1695.

Notes for Samuel Walker:

From Jim Opfell: "On 21 May 1741, Samuel Walker made his first purchase of land on Frederick County, VA.

(Frederick at that time included the area extending and including the present county of Hardy, WV.) It was 100 acres at the northwest corner of Jost Hite's 668-acre patent (granted on 3 Oct 1734). (Tr.118B Map 3) He sold this land located on the south edge of present-day Charles Town to Lawrence Washington of Fairfax, VA on 18 Sep 1747.

Samuel's second land purchase was on 22 Nov 1744 when Thomas Hunt and his wife Anne (widow of Rees Smith) of Prince George(s) Co. MD sold her dower land. the purchased land encompassed 270 acres but no further records or location of this tract can be found. Walker next purchased the lower 190 acres of Burnett's 490 acre patent land from Daniel Burnett for 123 pounds on 3 Oct 1745. (Tract 130) On 1 Jan 1752, Samuel received a Northern Neck Grant from Lord Fairfax, Proprietor, for 473 acres. This tract had been surveyed by Guy Broadwater on 4 Apr 1750, and was located adjacent north to Walker's 190-acre patent land. Walker sold both of these tracts to Christopher Beelor on 31 Aug 1752 for the total sum of 225 pounds. His wife Elinor relinquished her right of dower in open court to both properties which were their home places." (SEE p.100 'Pioneers of Old Frederick' O'Dell 1995.

Mar 2011: Yvonne Ellwood's website found problems in my information.

I changed Samuels year of birth, to 1694 from 1664. 1664 seems to early.

+ 7 v. James Walker II, born Abt. 1696 in Ireland; died Apr 1753 in Derry Twp, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

8 vi. Andrew Walker, born Abt. 1700 in Ireland.

Notes for Andrew Walker:

Jun 2010: From William J Walker's site.

"Andrew Walker b c1700 Ireland. There is evidence that Andrew was one of the five Walker brothers that emigrated to America in 1732 landing in Philadelpha. He is believed to have settled in Pennsboro Twp., PA. "

Notes for Henry Walker:

1. I can't find any mention of the word "Paxany" on the Internet, except as the alleged birthplace of Henry & Agnes Walker.

Jim Opfell has the death year as being: died 1767

2. Jim Opfell has the death as "died 1767 "

3. Nov 2008: This site has various Walker emails.

4. Sept 2009: Received an email from Tessa Goldhamer with lots of information.

5. Sept 2009: Received email from Jim Opfell regarding Tessa's line.

"Your family is a very important one in the line from Robert Walker of Ayrshire, whose grandsons migrated to Pennsylvania in the 1720's or so. A book that makes everything whole is "Greening of the West Branch" by your cousin Brett Nelson. He has given me permission to copy pages for his and my cousins, which I have done. One of the cousins, Kenneth Dean has made copies for various libraries, which you can find by asking your local library for a search.

He covers the saga of the murder of John Walker, your Benjamin's father at Winfield, PA in 1782. "

6. Dec 2012: Email received from Charlou Dolan. (Emma Charlotte)

Notes for Agnes Ann ?:

from Jim Opfell: Agnes is named in a bond given by the administrators of Henry's Estate. p.478 dated 19 Nov 1766. She and John Walker Jr., eldest son named. A petition of her eldest daughter Mary and Mary's husband John Walker, Sr. states "leaving issure five sons and two daughters, BESIDES Mary"

Children of Henry Walker and Agnes ? are:

Notes for Mary Walker:

1. "Daughter of Henry and Ann Walker. John & Mary were first cousins." William Reese Walker.

2. From Jim Opfell: John (and Mary) are mentioned in a deed which was prepared to settle the estate of Henry, Mary's father. Some have reported that John Walker Jr., Henry's oldest surviving son was the Administrator, but I believe his son-en-law could have been the John Walker mentioned in Court Documents. The deed mentions both John Walker Sr. & Jr. Sarah Walker(dau. of John, m.20/21 Janm 1773 At Middle Octario Gilbert Buchanan / Rev. Cuthbertson.

Mar 2002: From Jim Opfell: "There is a problem with Egle's Walker family. John Walker Jr's descendants say the John Walker Jr., the murdered Walker, was b.1705-1716. To make him older than Jr., I have him b.1710, but this cramps the ages given for Wm.Walker's wife,- William could have had a wife in England. Egle in one source says John was married to Isabel McCormick, as in Penna.Genealogies. I have married Isabel to the son of John's nephew, John Hoge Walker. I believe that the murdered John(Jr.) was younger than his brother-in-law, who I assume came from the Walkers west of the Susquehanna. See Egle in Notes and Queries, John of James of Robert of the six brothers. Fralish calls this work 'screeds.' I have made Mary's husband into two people, the other John is listed as a resident of Cumberland Co., in 1790 in the first census of US. p.79. Three John Walkers are listed in the 1780 Penna tax rolls in Lancaster Co.(CR,LR,SB), none in Derry. !Also b.PA John Walker Senr.was taxed 'at the east end of Derry'in 1759. 4. William (no will)3 Walker I (James2, Robert1) was born Abt. 1691 in Ireland or the passage under Jonathan Hoge Walker Feb 20, 1758 says England, and died 13 May 1757 in McCormick's Fort, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He married (1) Elizabeth Curry Abt. 1714 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born Abt. 1695 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died Abt. 1725 in East Pennsboro Twp, Cumberland Co, Pennsylvania. He married (2) Mary ? Abt. 1727. She was born Abt. 1700.

Notes for William (no will) Walker I:

Dec 2012: Email received from Charlou Dolan.

Mar 2002: From Jim Opfell

1. William was supposed to have been a soldier in the victory at Blenhiem in 1704, reportedly a lieutenant under the Duke of Marlborough. Returning home he soon left for the colonies, landing in Phila, where he married. He was employed in building forts when he applied for a warrant for land three miles west of Paxtang Manor on the Conodoguinet Creek, near Silver Spring.

It is reported he was at McCormick's Fort when he was killed in battle with the French led Indians. This version's source is W.Reese Walker of Hot Spr., AR. WRW b.c.1691 Ireland I call him Will-no-will as there was none reported.

2. Another account has Elizabeth, the mother of William Walker the younger, coming to America about 1718, her husband dying on the way over. She remarried in Phila. a Mr. Gardiner and had a daughter who later married Robert Reed. This story doesn't fit unless another generation is inserted, say Samuel was the father of William of Blenheim fame, and he died on the trip over, but she would hardly have had time to see her son married early enough for him to become a father in 1721, and also getting remarried, and having a daughter at about that same time. Then too, to fit in the part about him being a Blenheim survivor, would only serve to make her much too old to have been a mother, unless an earlier date for her removal to the new world, as is suggested, 1710. (Juniata Bio.Encyclo. p.446) This account is credible as Mary Reed married a grandson.

3. A third account is in Colonial Families, and lists only the one son, no parents for William. In a letter from Barbara S. Walker in the file in

Carlisle "Perhaps we'll have to resign ourselves to the thought that the one fact which we now wish to learn: where in England (or Scotland or Ireland) did William Walker come from, is not available." William Walker obtained a grant of 354 acres of land from the Penns in a patent dated 17 Oct.,1744, Book "A"Vol. 12 p.197 in the rolls Office. Later this land was sold to William Grogan et al by deed dated 7 Oct 1745 by William and Elizabeth Walker. The land was located in one of the folds of the Connodoguinet Creek immediately west of what is know as bayaons Mill, NE of Hoguestown in Cumb. Co. Barbara says that William joined the Silver Spring Ch in 1734, and that he had four brothers who removed to the Waxhaws area of the Carolinas(Charlotte).

4. Jim Opfell: A fourth document was sent me by William Reese Walker in 1996, and it is prepared by George M. Walker "From data furnished by Hon. John Hoge Walker of Erie, PA and from other reliable sources." "The record of the McCormick connection corrected and enlarged from data in the 'Ancestral Record and Biography of the McCormick Family. Compiled by Leander James McCormick of Chicago Ill 1896.

He may have lived also in Hempfield, a search of the Lancaster deeds is suggested. John Fralish says T.Mayhill edited the latter and published a summary in 1973. Wife on deed was Sarah. In Egle's notes and Queries, Thomas married Jane Ralston. I created two Thomas' because of the two wives, and given the older one as a son to this Thomas' great uncle, William Will-no-will. A third Thomas is in the family of William of Lurgan. I have given these two later Thomas' a wife Sarah, the same person, who deeded the land in Rye."

Dec 2012: Email received from Charlou Dolan, (Charlotte) with lots of info.

Notes for ?:

Dec 2012: I had this person married Samuel Weir in 1785. But this does not match with death.

Children of Benjamin Walker and ? are:

He married (2) Jane Jean Wilson 06 Jul 1756 in Pennsylvania. She was born Abt. 1730 in Derry Twp, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and died 27 May 1788 in Pine Creek, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.

Notes for John Walker I:

1. This note was on Mark Freeman's website. It looks like this means that John Walker was also killed in the "Lee Massacre". But I haven't a clue. There is a note on John Walker II, his son, about his father being killed by Indians.

"Sign reads as Follows at junction of highway 304 and 15 at Winfield PA...

LEE MASSACRE... Major John Lee and his entire family with the exception of his son Robert were massacred near here by an Indian War Party on August 13, 1782. He had an estate probated on 13 Sep 1782 in Northumberland Co, Court House."

2. May 2008: Received email from Dave Miller. "John Walker was killed in the Lee Massacre. Also his wife and daughters. In 1792 his 3 sons killed the Indians involved who were braging and taunting them in a local tavern. They ambushed the indians later. They were sought for Murder but with the help of friends managed to make their escape. That is how Benjamin ended up in Dearborn County Indiana. He used his mothers maided name of Wilson and to this day there are a number of things in the area named Wilson after him. He was also later pardoned, have a copy of it. He eventaully died in Illinois. "

3. 2003: From Jim Opfell: died in - Winfield, Northumberland, Pa; buried in Unmarked, Pa.

4. May 2008: In the following site, it notes that the marker may have been found.

"They are listed on a 4-sided stone along with Henry

Walker (Joseph W.'s son) and Margaret Agnew (states 'wife of Henry').

The stone is engraved "John Walker

Born in 1706 in IRELAND

Came to AMERICA 1732

Killed by Indianas 1778

Age 72 years"

It would follow that this is a family stone with 3 generations listed. It's possible that they are not actually bureid there but simply remembered.Brant Agnew and Catherine Agnew stones are next to them.

5. Nov 2009: Received an email from Mary Gleckler. "I believe I have information on the Walker descendants."

6. Dec 2012: Email received from Charlou Dolan, (Charlotte) with lots of info.

From Jim Opfell: From James' Will: Item Schwiss I give to Eldes son John that improvement that was Commonlded his Excepting that part that was sold to his brother for which he has Nots and Bonds and Two mares and a Coalt a Cow and to have his mantainance of this improvement long as he will be obediant to the rests of the Family and no longer." d. from DAR patriot's list? A John Walker is listed in the 1790 Cumberland census five males over 16, two females. John Walker was assigned pew #76 in 1790 BSPC(BIG SPRING PRESBY CH). WRW d.3 Nov. I think it likely that John was m. to Mary Walker, RIN 7499, dt. of Henry Walker of Derry, and that William of the six brothers only had one son, William and that William the father died on his way over, still there is the supposed marriage to Elizabeth Curry of Phila; or of England?

59 ii. Abraham Walker, born Abt. 1733 in Ireland.

Notes for Abraham Walker:

From Jim Opfell: James'Will" Item I likewise I give to my second son Abraham on black Hefer, Item likewise I give to my third son Samuel one Ewe Lamb, Item I give fourth son James and fifth son William improvement lying between John land a hollow that is between two runs in the creek and each of them a horse and saddel and each of them a cow when they mary and one pigg." John lived with Col. Culbertson near Carlisle. In 1787 the Colonel's district included Shippensburg, Newton, and Hopewell Twsps.(all west of w.Pennsboro). I suspect that Joseph and William, the two youngest sons of Joseph were adopted, and may have been sons of this John, who is on the tax rolls of Carlisle. Samuel is listed in the 1790 census of PA, wife and son under 16. He was assigned pew #70 at BSPC in 1790.

3. From Jim Opfell: From Jeanne Cady. date same as the b.of his cousin Archibald Walker of Derry who's date is on Stone. I had b.abt.1715, which would make him about 10 yrs when Robert, the father, landed in Baltimore. The "Complete Book of Emigrants 1700-1750" lists 1725'The following bound to John Taylor:---Robert Walker of Lincoln, saddler aged 20, to serve 4 years in Jamaica;-- (CLRO: ATSM/87-90) It is likely that our Robert came in 1732 with Henry and the others, though I still feel that their removal to the Cumberland Valley followed the lead of William, who may have been their older brother, and survivor of Blenheim.

4. Jun 2010: From William J Walker's site. "Settlers in Donegal Township were offered land west of the Susquehanna River to remove themselves after the Cresap War. William patented land as early as 1744 and Robert Sr. 1761 based on a 1751 survey. Later Robert bought the adjoining two tracts that his sons had warranted and Robert Jr. patented. "Father of John Crawford Walker, apparently went to the Pine Creek area in violation of the proclamation of 1763 forbidding settlement west of the crest of the Appalachians. Since the group was outside all organized law and society they set up their own government called the "fair play" system. John walker is mentioned in the surviving literature in spite of the secrecy involved due to the law breaking. He was apparently regarded as a fair and just person. Do a search for "PA" and "Fair Play" you should find some of it. This group also at one point declared independence from Britain on its own! A remarkable happenening."

WALKER, BENJAMIN Born: October 1758 Died: August 5, 1847

Buried: Walker's Grove Cemetery, near Easton, Menard County, Illinois. His body remains in the above cemetery, but his tombstone was removed to Fullerton Park Cemetery, Havana, Mason County.

Spouses: (1) Ann Crawford, died about 1820 in Indiana (2) Mary Criswell

Children: John, James, Robert, Henry, Samuel, Rosana (Hibbard), and Maria (Lynn)

Residences: From Harrisburg, Virginia, the family moved to West Moreland County, and in about 1794 to North Bend, Ohio. They moved to Dearborn County, Indiana, and on September 29, 1829 he applied for a pension. He moved to Madison County, Indiana, for a short time and in 1840 or 1841 came to Walker's Grove, near Easton, Mason County, to live with his son James.

Benjamin Walker was a great wild game hunter and one day while away from home an Indian appeared with a gun on his shoulder. Mrs. Walker, who was preparing game and wild fruit for her children was terrified, but appearing calm, seated the children and motioned for the Indian to be seated at the table. He sensed the presence of someone outside and motioned for the door to be opened. Benjamin Walker entered, and was able to talk with the Indian. Following the meal, he gave his guest a pipe and they smoked together. He offered the Indian a blanket and he slept on the floor. The Indian stayed for several days while they hunted together, then disappeared as mysteriously as he had come. In Dearborn County, Indiana, Benjamin was a hunting companion of Daniel Boone and was a neighbor of General William Henry Harrison.

Notes for Joseph Wilson Walker, Sr.:

May 2008: Added the information below.

Kelly Samberg sent an e-mail to compiler after having visited the Tull Cemetery, Pontoosuc,

IL in Sept. 2001. Kelly wrote the following message:

...According to the tombstone at Tull Cemetery in Pontoosuc, IL...

Joseph W. Walker was born 5/3/1765-died 11/28/1815. I further believe that his father was John Walker. They are listed on a 4-sided stone along with Henry Walker (Joseph W.'s son) and Margaret Agnew (states 'wife of Henry'). The stone is engraved "John Walker

Born in 1706 in IRELAND Came to AMERICA 1732

Killed by Indianas 1778 Age 72 years"

It would follow that this is a family stone with 3 generations listed. It's possible that they are not actually bureid there but simply remembered. Brant Agnew and Catherine Agnew stones are next to them. Many of Henry Walker's children are buried in the same cemetery....

Notes for Spencer Walker:

Note from Jim Opfell: NOT PROVEN PLACE A John Walker was witness to Michael Blue's Will along with Thomas. The latter may have been the son of James of Andrew. The former may have been Samuel's third son and not Spencer, but I have no other references. Spencer seems to have come from Frederick Co. He is found on the 1834 Hampshire Tax Roll, but in 1837 the Spencer Walker Estate is listed. Hampshire has two tax rolls, these Walkers were on the Lower District, while those in Green Spring Valley, Upper.

Notes for Nancy ?:

From Jim Opfell: Nancy is listed in 1830 2 male/3 females. Hampshire Co. Census. In 1840 two entrys 0 male/ 3 female and o male/ 2 females. She paid taxes for three horses in 1841.

Notes for Samuel Walker:

note from Jim Opfell: In 1860 in Bloomery, a town of Hampshire Co. VA I found Samuel Walker. Father Samuel had three sons in 1810 census. I think this wasn't one of them. Living with the family was Lucy Yost 8, John Cannon 24, and John H Cannon 1. Samuel may have had a daughter who died in childbirth or when the child was young and her mother chose to raise the grandchild. Value $400 NOT PROVEN PLACE. I think this Samuel is son of Spencer. !Samuel is listed in 1840 Census 2 male/1female. In 1850 age 55 Cooper, b.VA living with wife Nancy & John Cannon 14 b.VA Living with George Smith Jr. 27 and his wife Ann is Samuel C. Walker 13 b.VA I think Ann and Samuel C. are both related to this Samuel. Samuel appears on the 1833 Hampshire Tax Roll with one horse. He was joined in the "lower district' in 1834 by Spencer and both are listed in 1835, each with 2 horses. After Spencer's death, Samuel and two horses are listed, but in 1839 he is joined by Philip, who has three horses , five in 1840. Then in 1841 Nacy(Nancy) joins them with three horses, Philip still has his five.

3. 2002: from Jim Opfell: Jonathan removed to Northumberland, PA becoming a lawyer. He entered into an article of sale with Martin Rees over a tract of land in Nippanose Valley. It does not appear that the Contract was executed as Rees removed to Warren Co. soon after. It is likely that Rees temporarily lived So. of the West Branch.

Jonathan was the first Judge of the Western District of Pennsylvania, appointed by Pres. Monroe, 1818. He held the position until his death. "John Walker was born in East Pennsboro Twp., Cumberland County, state of pennsylvania on the 20 day of february 1756, his father's name was William Walker, born in Lancaster County on the 3rd day of December in the year 1721. his father was William Walker a native of England in the parish of ----- served as a Lieutenant in Germany in Queen Ann's wars. Robert was not named in his son's will. The DAR says Robert died in 1790, the same year Joseph died, but I think they got the two mixed. Robert was a private in the Rev.War. Robert is listed in the 1790 Cumb.Census - 4 females, 2 M over 16 one under. He is taxed 1781-93 on 60/80 acres in Newton. His family is listed in the Big Springs 1789 Church Census. 6. Addtl Info from Jim Opfell: Robert went to Milford Twp. to improve land of Samuel Brice. He added more land by patent and sold the lot to Thomas Harris in 1774, moving up the Tuscarora Creek to Lack Twp. The grist mill he purchased from William Morris or Morrison went into default and was sold by the sheriff of Cumberland in 1783, a judgement of L2000 PA was levied against Walker. Harding's George Rogers Clark and His Men, Military Records, on file at the Kentucky Historical Society, and the Virginia State Archives show he served as a private in the Command of Capt. McCluers in the campaign against the Shanaway Indians on the Scioto River in Ohio. He was given L 1 PA in his father's will. But his six sons received 400 A in Virginia from Robert Sr. (1789) In 1785 he put his processions, livestock, furniture, etc. in a deed to his sons John and Samuel, then took an oath of insolvency. In 1788 he was brought before the court for failure to disclose that he owned a bedstead and some notes during his oath. In the minutes of the Hampshire Court, Walker's Mill near Springfield is mentioned. He was taxed over the years 1782-99(Records on hand), in 1783, his sons were counted, 1787 3, 1790 4,1793 5,John separate from 1786 on. SEE In Ohio, he received a deed from and witnessed (Elizabeth too) for the 7.5 A. Hudson Green. HPC p.322 shows him as a voter from Ravenna on 8 June 1808. In the spring of 1803 he and David Hudson were elected justice of the peace, the first elected by the people. He kept that office until his death.

I have placed his burial in Maple Grove Cem., in Darrowville, but the deeds to Lot 10 Hudson refer to a 5r X 6r cemetery, not being transferred. The cemetery has been abandoned and desecrated, the monuments removed to a basement and back porch at 2341 Norton Rd. While a pole barn has been built upon the old cemetery behind the house at 5441 Stow Rd., Hudson.

7. Jim Opfell: 48. We just do not know where the Walkers first settled when they arrived in PA. The map of Lancaster County when it was erected in 1730 shows a large township marked Donegal, east of the Susquehanna. Land west was forbidden, though a few stragglers did penetrate. They were eventually dealt with by Jacques Le Tort, who married a squaw, agent for Logan, the Penn's Lt. Governor.

Robert's warrant in 1752 was signed by Le Tort. It is obvious to me that the Walkers were on friendly, if not business relationships, with Thomas Cresap and his family for a very long time. Cresap was like an agent, or operative, whose patron was Lord Baltimore (he knew five of t hem), and who was a thorn in the Penn's lower side. In 1745, about, an effort was made to drive him out (Cresap's War). (He had a trading post on the west side of the Susquehanna, about where Wright's Ferry was.) I imagine the Walkers becoming settled in Donegal, where the Scotch-Irish established a Presbytery, and trading with Cresap (Old Lancaster Co. Histories mentions Walkers as one of the early settlers, but then, Robert also had three brothers who were early settlers, one, Andrew was still there after 1750). When the younger Walkers arrived, land was available in Paxtang, further north, and that's where we find them, and their patents. Along with other Scots-Irish, the Penns made land available (Treaty of 1745) to those dispossessed in Cresap's conflict, across the river, some going up the Conodoguinet, others, like us, up the Yellow Breeches, finding a region out in the western part (Hopewell) of Cumberland Co. communicating between the two rivers.

1. from Jim Opfell: RLD b., d., Trumbull Marriages. Also WRW b.1783 AF b.1783 Also d. 2 Mar 1856 "Went to Greene Co., In around 1805" Some believe Sarah's birth date comes from the O'Brien Cemetery inscr. for Sarah wife of Henry O'Brien. Otherwise she more or less has to be a twin to George. The date given for her d.is incorrect as it is the date for "Aunt Sally O'Brien" who d.age 79 and is buried in the O'Brien Cem. in Hudson.

Notes for Mary Walker:

2003 From Jim Opfell's report: "died 8 Sep 1781 in , Franklin, Pa. This death was sent me by Virginia Smith in 1992. She may have been a daughter of Robert Walker Sr. as Robert Jr. is not known to a have lived in Peters Twp. at the time. Robert Sr. mentions his daughter Mary in his 1892 will, and in a deed wherein he gave her 1/2 of the Plantation in Peters in 1789 (Franklin Deeds), as well as specifying the same in his will. I think this latter Mary was the widow of his son James, who died earlier in a fall from a horse. The one reported here may have been Uncle John Walker's 1st wife, who died about this time(1778). Her age at death was not given. NOT PROVEN PLACE Marg Davis has b.6 Mar 1781 Green Springs, VA and d.8 Sep 1861"

Notes for Andrew Walker:

2003: from Jim Opfell:

1. Andrew was named first in his father's will, and may have been older than Robert. He was also alive in 1811. It appears he stayed in Franklin much longer than his sons James and Andrew, and is there in 1800 census. Robert Sr. deeded 400 acres to these grandsons in 1792, and in his will, Andrew Sr.getting only L1PA. I believe he lived near Gettysburg for some time, leaving after it was determined that Isobel's father, James, had left them no land in his will.

James, his son, was living in Hampshire, and Mary may refer to Mary Walker of Franklin, who's will was probated 1820. Andrew is filed Book B,p.254 in Franklin Co. AF b.abt 1736

Notes for Isabelle Thorn:

2003: From Jim Opfell: The commissioners of James Walker's estate delayed in dividing the property among the eight or nine heirs until abt 1822 or 1823, possibly because Isabel, who was an heir of Andrew Jr., was still living. Both Isabel and Isabel Jr. are mentioned in Mt. Bethel church records.

"John Walker sold his warrant to his father and the father got the land. John having to issue a deed to Michael Kienat, who eventually bought the plantation of the Walker's on the Yellow Breeches Creek. John was the first to buy land in Peters Township, which lay alongside the Barr property that Robert Walker Sr. and Samuel Walker became owners. John sold the latter and purchased land in Huntingdon. A notice published December 12, 1787th issue of the Carlisle Gazette reads,"Whereas the subscriber, John Walker of Peters Township, Franklin Township, having purchased tract of land of John Johnston of Sherly Township (now Huntingdon County) gave bonds for payment. Does hereby forewarn persons against taking assignment of 4 of said bonds, as he is determined not to pay said bonds until Johnston shall make good his contract". (now W VA) Her father deeded her 1/2 of 304 acre tract in 1789 in VA. recorded in VA and Franklin, PA She is also given this property in her father's will in 1892. She is named in Patrick's 1819 will as admin. The Donaldson's and Walker's were neighbors. About 1803, her nephew Samuel Walker (son of Robert Walker Jr)., nephew bought the other half of this tract from her Pennsylvania Walker nephews.

Notes for Patrick Savage:

Patrick Savage first appears on the Hampshire Tax Roll in 1786, with two horses and two cows. This continued through 1799, though the cows were dropped from the tax in 1789 or so. Two horses suggest a team, and Patrick was probably a farmer. Patrick's will was probated in 1820, one heir, Donalsons wit. & sur. farmer. Several other Savages were paying taxes. John from 1782 through 1799 or for the entire period for which we have records. One time John Jr. is listed, twice Nicholas, and once Lydia, who may have been John Sr's Widow. John was listed with 6 members in 1784 and ? in 1792. He sold land in 1790, but as John Sr.'s will was probated in 1791, it is likely the estate. John Jr. and Nicholas, the two sons were both granted land. As this family owned slaves and lived in a separate district, they are not included here.

Later corrected p.899/900 Series 4? Vol.? This John is named in his father's 1784 will last, and may have been younger than Thomas.

"This article is from "History of Dearborn and Ohio Counties, Indiana" published 1885.

HENRY WALKER was born in what is now Dearborn County in 1799. His parents were Benjamin and Anna Walker, among the first pioneers of the West. Our subject was one of the city's most noted citizens, one who took an active part in every enterprise for the improvement of the city and the advancement of morality and religion. For forty years he was identified with Aurora's history, coming here in 1834, when it was but a village, with comparatively little business and less enterprise; without bridges, and the two most important roads almost impassable to reach Manchester up the steep point above Mr. L. Cheek's; the other, west, up the bill by Joseph Tresters' and through Dr. Sutton's pasture field. To change these roads was of the utmost importance, and Mr. W. being elected to the Legislature the next year, had laws passed relocating both these highways, and the Manchester Pike and Sunnyside are the result on that route, while the turnpike to Wellsboro and Hart's Mill and the improvements on the other side followed as a consequence. Mr. Walker served as member of the State Legislature in 1835, as school commissioner in 1837 and from 1840 to 1843, and for a number of years, as postmaster of Aurora. He became identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church of Aurora in 1838. Mr. Walker was married to Miss Harriet Bisbee December 11, 1822. Her father was a pioneer, and settled with the very first on Laughery Creek. Mr. Walker's death occurred March 21, 1876.

Henry and Harriet are buried in Riverview Cemetery, between Aurora and Rising Sun, Indiana.

1860: Appointed as Postmaster of Aurora, Indiana by President Abraham Lincoln. "

Henry Walker Obituary:

Lawrenceburgh Press, Lawrenceburg, Ind. March 30, 1876

Hon. Henry Walker Died, at his residence near this city of paralysis, on the 22d inst., aged 76 years and three months.

Henry Walker, the son of Benjamin and Anna Walker, was born near Hartford, Dearborn County, in 1799, and his youth was spent in the peaceful pursuit of agriculture. In 1822 he was united in marriage with Miss Harried Bisbee, who is still living, and by whom he had two children; Francis, born Aug. 28, 1824, who died Aug. 20, 1833, and John born Aug. 18, 1826, who is the present Post Master of Aurora.

Early in the year 1834 Mr. Walker removed to Aurora, and actively engaged in developing the resources of out embryo city. He soon pushed to the front among our enterprising business men, and with all measures calculated to improve the material, social, moral or intellectual condition of he community, his name was prominently connected. That he enjoyed the confidence of the community, is evidence by the positions of trust to which he was called; representative in the legislature during the session 1835-6, School Commissioner for three years, and Post Master for four years. In addition, he was frequently called upon to fill minor positions where responsibility and honor were the sole qualifications.

Mr. Walker had, like many of us, his idiosyncrasies, yet under his peculiar traits of character could be discovered a generous and hearty spirit of philanthropy, and love for his fellow men, that was ever prompting him to deeds of philanthropy and mercy. It may be said that this, coupled with his implicit faith in his fellow men, based upon his own integrity and honesty of purpose wrought his financial ruin; the handsome patrimony with which he commenced business, and the accumulations of investments, were gradually absorbed by endorsements for his friends, and expenditures for the worthy and needy that seldom yield a return in material value. The writer of this sustained intimate personal relations with the deceased for many years, enjoying the benefit of his unsolicited counsel and assistance, and it is to him a grateful task to pay this tribute to the memory of his departed friend.

Mr. Walker retired from active business several years since, and is known to the rising generation only as a genial old man, his age mellowed with the ripening influence of many years of kindly intercourse with his fellow men, and passing the evening of his life in the quiet contentment of a pleasant home, provided for him by love and devotion. "His end was peace;" may we deserve that ours shall be.
