Allergy Information
Allergy Information
We have a student in our room, and many in our school, with serious allergies! It is extremely important to follow health guidelines when entering our classroom. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. If you have questions, please contact the school nurse Mrs. Compton or the classroom teacher.
Talk with your child about allergies. Please share with your child the importance of acceptance towards other children. We will also be teaching this concept in the classroom.
Peanut Allergy
Strict avoidance is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction to a peanut allergy. If an exposure occurs, these students may need an immediate injection using an EPI pen. Our school has a protocol in place for this emergency. Peanut allergies are a unique food allergy in that allergic people can react not only to the ingestion of peanuts, but also from the air-born transmission of the peanut dust or coming into physical contact with someone with peanut oils/flour/residue on the hands, face, etc. Because of this we will have students wash their hands often and use hand sanitizer frequently. Due to the severe nature of this allergic reaction and everyone's desire to make the classroom and school as safe as possible, we must provide a PEANUT/Nut-FREE CLASSROOM.
Please do not send any peanut products to school with your child for snack, birthday treats or party treats. The best way to determine if a food item contains peanuts is by reading the label. We recognize that many children love peanut butter, but we ask you to limit it to their lunch, because we will be providing a peanut-free table in the lunchroom for our peanut-allergic children.
