Fifth Sunday of Lent

GOSPEL MEDITATION Any good teacher or parent will tell you that once a lesson is really learned it doesn't need to be taught again. When we internalize things we have learned, they become a part of who we are and influence how we perceive and interact with our world. The same is true for the law God has written upon our hearts. Once humanity learns this lesson, we will simply know it to be true and act accordingly. Sometimes, it is hard to get people to learn the lessons they need to learn. They are often distracted, disinterested, conflicted, misdirected, or just too stubborn and unable or unwilling to see what is right before their eyes. Understanding that God is in a loving and committed relationship with those fashioned and formed in God's own image, seems like such a simple lesson to learn. But history and experience has proven that it is not.

When we accept the law God has placed in our hearts and gain wisdom from it, then when we suffer we learn to listen more attentively to the Voice behind that law. We naturally flee to our Creator for inspiration, consolation, hope, direction, and comfort as we navigate through this time of darkness. We will not need to run from it, subdue it, fight it, or be overcome by it because we will know, having internalized this profound lesson before, that God will bring new life. God's law is love and love never fails. Even in the moments of Jesus' deepest despair, he glorified the name of his Father. What he learned allowed him to put everything in perspective and be obedient to the tender, loving Voice that echoed within. As Lent quickly winds down, may we learn the same! Then, may we gain the fortitude and wisdom to help others see what is right before their eyes. ?LPi

MEDITACI?N DEL EVANGELIO Cualquier buen profesor o padre te dir? que una vez que una lecci?n est? realmente aprendida no es necesario volver a ense?arla. Cuando interiorizamos las cosas que hemos aprendido, se convierten en parte de lo que somos e influyen en c?mo percibimos e interactuamos con nuestro mundo. Lo mismo ocurre con la ley que Dios ha escrito en nuestros corazones. Una vez que la humanidad aprenda esta lecci?n, simplemente sabremos que es cierta y actuaremos en consecuencia. A veces, es dif?cil conseguir que la gente aprenda las lecciones que necesita aprender. A menudo est?n distra?dos, desinteresados, en conflicto, mal dirigidos, o simplemente son demasiado tercos y no pueden o no quieren ver lo que est? delante de sus ojos. Entender que Dios est? en una relaci?n de amor y compromiso con aquellos que han sido formados a su imagen y semejanza, parece una lecci?n muy sencilla de aprender. Pero la historia y la experiencia han demostrado que no lo es.

Cuando aceptamos la ley que Dios ha puesto en nuestro coraz?n y obtenemos sabidur?a de ella, entonces, cuando sufrimos, aprendemos a escuchar con m?s atenci?n la Voz que hay detr?s de esa ley. De forma natural, acudimos a nuestro Creador en busca de inspiraci?n, consuelo, esperanza, direcci?n y confort mientras atravesamos este tiempo de oscuridad. No necesitaremos huir de ella, someterla, luchar contra ella o dejarnos vencer por ella porque sabremos, habiendo interiorizado antes esta profunda lecci?n, que Dios traer? nueva vida. La ley de Dios es el amor y el amor nunca falla. Incluso en los momentos de mayor desesperaci?n de Jes?s, ?l glorific? el nombre de su Padre. Lo que aprendi? le permiti? poner todo en perspectiva y ser obediente a la tierna y amorosa Voz que resonaba en su interior. Ahora que la Cuaresma est? a punto de terminar, ?que podamos aprender lo mismo! Entonces, que ganemos la fortaleza y la sabidur?a para ayudar a otros a ver lo que est? ante sus ojos. ?LPi
