Irondale/St. Anthony Boys Hockey (FAQ)

How do I get information? Our website is a great source: speed- as well as all team e-mails from the Blue Line Club. The main email for questions is KnightsHockeyIHS@

Other sources of information are the Irondale Daily News, St. Anthony High School’s Activities emails and other websites listed below. Other hockey websites (these are provided for information, not as an endorsement):

Hockey Hub: The main source for all boys hockey team results. There is a link to it from our website.

Minnesota State High School League: The official Minnesota State High School site for all high school sports.

Follow The Puck: A comprehensive blog of high school hockey along with the QRF Ranking system.

It is strongly suggested that you allow your player to communicate directly with their captains and the coaching staff. Communication to you should come from your player or from the Blue Line Club in most cases.

Why do we have our own website? Our website is the main source of communication for activities beyond games and results. The website allows us to provide details of upcoming events, historical records, photos, alumni tracking, and information you need to know throughout the year.

How is high school hockey different from youth hockey? The main thing that parents need to adjust to is that at the high school level, the focus shifts from parents being the source of information to the player being the source of information. While you will no longer pay for ice like you did in the Youth Program, you are expected to fund the various initiatives set by the Blue Line Club and participate in the BLC activities.

Who are the 2013-2014 captains? Kilen Eilefson (Sr.), Barrett Reif (Jr.) and Marty O’Connell (Jr.)

Who are the team managers? We are still looking for Team Managers. Team Managers support the coaches and the team with practice and game day activities. They are assigned tasks by the coaches and captains. It is a different role than Team Managers from Youth Hockey.

High School Injuries: There is a trainer on-site at each hockey game. It is the decision of the coaches and trainer to determine when a player can return to the ice regardless of pre-testing results you may have or a doctor’s note. High School hockey is not a part of the USA Hockey organization and the medical insurance provided by USA Hockey as a youth player does not apply to your high school player.

When and where is practice? The coaches have scheduled the practice ice for the season, but there may be adjustments. The initial schedule is on the website under Master Schedule. On ice practices are at the SuperRink. There may be weight training or other practice sessions at alternative locations. Any changes will come from the coach to your player and will be posted on the website, if known. Most practice changes are not posted on the website so make sure your players pay attention to the coaches.

Do you arrange for carpooling? In general, no. The Exchange portion of the website can be used to post a need for a ride, but most arranging of rides is made through players. Anyone can post a need on the website – no security is required, but it is monitored.

When and where are the games? The game schedule is available online. It can change and the Irondale school site is the official schedule (Athletics/Schedules). Our website also has the schedule on the Master Schedule and Teams across the top. An overview schedule is also posted on the left of the home page. You can link and download the schedule into an Outlook or Google calendar. If you need more information, see Dave Cheney.

What is the cost of admission? – There is an admission fee of $6 at most schools for adults and $4 for students and seniors, some are $7 and $5 respectively, and tournament or playoff games can run more. The $50 Irondale punch card is not valid at hockey games. If you volunteer to take tickets at a game or work the penalty box admission is free.

Is transportation provided to away games? Bus transportation is provided to most away games. The coaches will inform the players what time they need to be at Irondale for the bus. The bus leaves from Irondale High School. Some cases where a bus might not be provided when an away game is at Shoreview or Fogerty. There is no bus provided to home games.

Do we have team pictures? David Banks will take individual and team pictures. Order forms will be passed out at the Drug Awareness meeting and are also on the Irondale High School website. Payment is directly to David Banks. The team photo is provided for the year book.

In addition, the Blue Line Club arranges for a team poster with a Knights theme. That will be scheduled for the same day as team photos above. That is a separate cost and is arranged through the Blue Line Club. The more posters ordered, the cheaper the cost for all.

We also need team photographers who will take pictures at JV and Varsity games.

Is there Spirit Wear to purchase? Not at this time. If you think this would be a good thing to offer our families and fans, we need a volunteer to be the point person. If you are interested, please contact the Blue Line Club.

Is there Player Apparel? Yes. The Captains will choose the player apparel to be worn this year. The Captains will work with BLC to get sizing from all players in order to expedite the player apparel order. Funding for the player apparel comes from the Blue Line Club.

What does the Blue Line Club do? The Blue Line Club assists the coaching staff in financial resources as well as organizes team functions. Please see the last page with details of the BLC.

Is there Fundraising? Yes, we have a pancake breakfast in January or February combined with a silent auction. Each player is expected to sell tickets and each family is expected to provide a basket for the silent auction. We need volunteers for this effort and more details will be sent out. Other fundraising efforts include home game volunteers (scorekeeper/gate admissions/penalty box), Program Ad Book, and optional fundraisers such as Cub Foods Bagging, Herberger’s Coupon Books, Dock Removal, Compost site, and King and Queen of the Knight, or any other ideas. We try to minimize fundraising but it is necessary in order to fund the items identified by the Coaching Staff and BLC. We welcome any and all assistance with fundraising.

What is a Pasta Feed/Carbo Load? A Pasta Feed/Carbo Load is meant to be a team building event. These are usually done the night before a game. We will probably have monthly Pasta Feed/Carbo Loads. Parents are asked to combine with another family and host the players and coaches at a home for dinner. Quite often pasta is served, but the menu is open ended. Generally done following practice.

What volunteers are needed? We need volunteers at all home games. We need volunteers for the Banquet, Senior “K”night, Pancake Breakfast/Silent Auction, Photos, Game Summaries for the Irondale & St. Anthony News, Coordinating Pasta Feeds, Food for bus trips to some away games, fundraising, creating a season end DVD, and updating the website. Many volunteers are needed and appreciated.

What is a Game Photographer? - Take pictures throughout the season and work with the Website Administrator to post them (or some of them) on the website. Take photos of each Senior Player for their Senior Banner. Take photos of special occasions like Youth Knights and the Pancake Breakfast. Try and get action shots of each player for inclusion in the end of year DVD.

What is Senior Knight? There is a night set aside to honor the seniors and their families, usually at the end of the season. Senior Parents get in free. There is a special ceremony in-between the JV and Varsity game and a reception afterwards. It is the responsibility of the Junior Parents to arrange Senior “K”night.

When do they return their uniforms? The coaches will pick a day after the season ends for the players to come in and return their uniforms and fill out a questionnaire.

Is there an end of the season banquet? There is an end of the season banquet where coaches, player and parents/guardians are invited. It is usually in March.

How can I get involved? Please contact Caroline Beckmann Booster Club President: cbellbeckman@ or the main email: KnightsHockeyIHS@
