Specifier Notes: This product guide specification is written according to the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) 3-Part Format, including MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat, as described in The Project Resource Manual—CSI Manual of Practice, Fifth Edition.

The section must be carefully reviewed and edited by the Architect to meet the requirements of the project and local building code. Coordinate this section with other specification sections and the Drawings. Delete all “Specifier Notes” after editing this section.

SECTION 10 73 00 Protective Covers

Specifier Notes: This section covers Landscape Forms, Inc. “Upfit” protective cover. Consult Landscape Forms, Inc. for assistance in editing this section for the specific application.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Protective covers.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product data, storage and handling requirements and recommendations, installation methods and available colors, styles, patterns and textures.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit manufacturer’s shop drawings, including plans and elevations, indicating overall dimensions.

C. Samples: Submit manufacturer’s samples of materials, finishes, and colors.

D. Warranty: Manufacturer’s standard warranty.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Manufacturer regularly engaged in manufacture of site furnishings since 1969.

B. Product Support: Products are supported with complete engineering drawings and design patents.

C. Base Worth: An installed base of products worth in excess of one hundred million dollars.

D. Assets: Excess of twenty million dollars in assets.

E. Production: Schedule for production is order dependant.

F. Facility Operator: Welders and machine operators are certified.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage: Store materials in clean, dry area in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Keep materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging until installation.

C. Handling: Protect materials and finish during handling and installation to prevent damage.

1.5 WARRANTY

A. Warranty Information:

-Landscape Forms, Inc. warrants all products (other than noted exceptions) to be free from defects in material and/or workmanship for a period of three years from date of invoice.

-The warranty does not apply to damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, tampering, negligence, or abuse.

- Landscape Forms, Inc. shall, at its option, repair, replace, or refund the purchase price of any items found defective upon inspection by an authorized Landscape Forms service representative.

-Purchasers should be aware that normal use of these high quality products can result in superficial damage affecting the finish. Scratches, nicks, and dents are to be considered normal wear and tear, and are not the responsibility of the manufacturer.

2.3 MATERIALS

Specifier Note: Include an overall description of the system, assembly, product or material. Include required properties or characteristics that do not obviously belong under other titles. Examples: Configuration, size and color.

B. Product:  StruXure Slide; Pre-engineered, sun control and wet weather roof structure with columns and beams supporting a louvered roof composed of one or more zones of sliding, pivoting, interlocking, and drainable louvers; including, gutter and drain system, and specified additional components.

1. Engineering:

a. Design sun control structure for dead load, specified live load, calculated additional uniform dead load, additional concentrated dead loads required for equipment, and combinations of these loads.

b. Load reduction due to tributary loaded area not allowed.

c. Basic design loads:

1) Roof live load: 20 pounds per square foot.

2) Wind velocity: As required by authorities having jurisdiction.

3) Collateral loads: Calculated additional dead load, in pounds per square foot, for plumbing, heating and cooling, and lighting.

4) Beams: Maximum live load deflection of L/360.

2. Materials:

a. Extruded structural aluminum tube: Types 6061-T6, or 6063-T6 alloy and temper; meeting ASTM B429.

C. Components:

1. Posts: 6 inches x 6 inches extruded structural aluminum tubes with post mounting bases, brackets, and beam to post connectors.

3. Slide System: Extruded aluminum, and sliding mechanism for motor operation.

5. Louvers: Extruded aluminum; interlocking, drainable louvers mounted in pivot system with170-degree rotation.

6. Pivot pins: 1⁄2 inch diameter.

7. Track pins:  5⁄16 inch diameter.

8. Gutters: Extruded aluminum; straight gutters, corners, and pass-through gutter configurations.

12. Wall panels:

a. Slat and louvered walls: slats are 6005A-T5 aluminum extrusions, bolted to 6005A-T5 extruded aluminum frames

b. Glass walls: Brackets are 2” x 2” aluminum extrusions welded to aluminum plates, bolted to a brushed nickel z-series square-type flat base zinc clamp for 3/8" glass. Glass is tempered, and available in a variety of colors.

c. Green walls: 0.090 dia wires, welded to ½” L channel framing, silver powdercoat finish.

13. Sliding door assembly: bolts to Upfit structure with ½-20 X 3 hex head stainless steel screws and nuts.

a. Door frame: 6063-T6 aluminum extrusions, 1”x4”x.125” wall, welded corners, bolted to (3) trolley brackets with (6) each 1/4-20 x 1/2” socket button head screws.

b. Trolley bracket: 1/4” steel sheet welded to 1/8” steel sheet

c. Track large cover: aluminum sheet, 1/8” thick, formed, with 1/8” thick aluminum sheet welded end caps.

d. Track small cover: aluminum sheet, 1/8” thick, formed.

e. Track: aluminum angle, 3-1/2” x 2-1/2” x ¼”, welded to aluminum strut channel, 3-1/4” h x 1-5/8” w x 0.1” thick.

f. Stop brackets: steel sheet, 1/8” thick, formed, with bolted on bumper with aluminum base plate and polyurethane bumper.

g. Flanged ball bearings: self-aligning, 440C stainless steel, for 3/8” shaft diameter

14. Bench:

a. Wood top: Molded 3-3/4” x 1” boards with eased edges. Exterior use.

1) Jarrah: Solid stock, select Australian hardwood.

2) Ipe: Solid stock, select South American hardwood.

3) Domestically sourced thermally modified ash

b. Bench mount: 6061 aluminum extrusion, 2” x 2” x 1/8”wall, welded to 3/16” aluminum plate brackets.

d. Bench leg: 6061 aluminum flat bar, 5”w x ½” thick, welded to ¼” aluminum sheet bracket.

e. Glides: Adjustable, nylon.

15. In-line table:

d. Attachment bar: 3/4” x 1-1/2” x 1/8” wall 6061-T6 aluminum extrusion, welded to 1/8” thick 6061-T6 aluminum sheet mounting tabs.

e. Table leg: ½” x 5” bar, 5052-H32 aluminum, formed and welded.

17. Bike rack: formed .140” thick steel sheet, welded to 1-1/4” dia x .120 wall steel tube. Hanging tube includes black polyurethane sleeve for protecting finish on bikes.

18. Shelf: Formed and welded 1/8” thick aluminum sheet. Clamps for installing on horizontal slat wall are 6061 aluminum plate, welded to shelf assembly.

19. Power Garage: Die-cast aluminum junction box and wet location in-use cover assembly of A413 ASTM B85 or A380.0 ASTM B108 alloy with acetal door slides and synthetic rubber bumper. Bolts to CR1008 steel sheet bracket for securing to 6”x6” post. Includes cordgrip for 12/3 SJOOW power cord.

a. GFCI Duplex Receptacle: UL listed, WR-rated for use in wet locations, white faceplate.

b. 4-Port USB Charger: UL listed, up to 21W output at 5V, white faceplate.

2.2 ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS

2.3 ACCESSORIES

A. Metal screws: #12 or #14 x 1 inch (25.4 mm), self-tapping; Type 410 stainless steel meeting ASTM A276; unless noted otherwise. Flat head screws used for structural beams in visible areas, all other attachment areas use hex head with flange screws.

B. Concrete and masonry screws: 1⁄4 inch (6.35 mm) diameter by length required, Hex-head or Phillips flat-head; Type 410 stainless steel meeting ASTM A276; unless noted otherwise.

C. Metal flashing: Minimum, 0.040 inch (1 mm) thick aluminum sheet, or as recommended by manufacturer; match color of other members; attach flashing with concealed fasteners, or exposed fasteners with heads finished to match color of other members.

D. Joint sealers: Recommended by manufacturer.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that conditions of work previously installed under other sections or contracts are acceptable for installation of sun control structures in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions and approved submittals.

1. Notify [Architect] of unacceptable conditions upon discovery.

2. Proceed with preparation and installation only after unacceptable conditions have been corrected.

Specifier Note: Specify actions required to prepare the surface, area or site for incorporation of the section’s primary products. Describe requirements for exposure or removal of existing assemblies, components, products or materials.

3.2 PREPARATION

Specifier Note: Specify preparatory work required prior to installation/application/erection of primary products.

A. Prepare footings and mounting locations for installation of posts and beams in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions and approved submittals.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install sun control structures in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions and approved submittals.

3.4 CLEANING

A. Clean-up waste and debris daily during installation.

B. Upon completion, remove surplus materials, remaining debris, tools and equipment.

C. Collect recyclable waste and dispose of as specified.

Specifier Note: Specify protection methods completed after installation, but prior to acceptance by the owner. Protection of surrounding areas and surfaces during application or installation is included under PART 3, Preparation. Include only statements unique to this Section.

3.5 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products from damage during subsequent construction.

B. Repair damage to adjacent materials caused by installation of sun control structures.

3.6 MAINTENANCE

A. Provide annually renewable maintenance program furnished by manufacturer’s authorized dealer, and beginning at Date of Substantial Completion, for Owner’s consideration.
