Friday, Sept. 9 – Scarlet Letter reading day; discussion of essay and power point project. All information is under Novels / The Scarlet Letter (essay worksheet or group powerpoint) READING SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY Monday, Sept. 26. There will be a hefty quiz, some discussion, and a work day for the projects. Projects are due and presentations will begin Sept. 28.

Monday, Sept. until finished – Begin reading Arthur Miller’s “Crucible”. All reading will be done in class, and parts will be assigned.

The culminating assignment will be writing a “missing scene” using all group members; everyone must have a speaking part and must contribute equally to the effort. Scenes will be performed in front of the class. A typed script must be provided to the teacher before presentation. Stage directions must be included as part of the script.

Monday, Sept. 19 – Due Thursday, Sept. 22 8:00 p.m. –

Respond to one blog on bwhitepages. that is located in the Novels tab, Scarlet Letter, Scarlet Letter Blog. You may respond to either blog. Your post must follow the posted rules and be received by 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

The class will read Act 4.

Thursday, Sept. 22

The class will watch the remainder of the film. This might carry over until Monday.

We will read the first and one other excerpt as a class

Read all the other excerpts and fill out the chart.

Use these to complete a new chart using the text provided under the Excerpt tab.

ASSIGNMENT:

• Using the information from your chart--at least two themes and two stylistic devices--draft a short essay that discusses and explains your choices.

• More important than the length of your essay is its content. That being said, a guideline for the essay is that it should be at least two pages typed, double-spaced OR three to four pages handwritten in normal size handwriting.

• Use MLA format. MLA information and example are in Useful Links.

• Use examples from the text in your essay.

• Attach responses 1-7 about the art and your first and second charts to back of the essay.

• The rubric that will be used is in the Useful Links section.

• The due date will be announced.

• This essay and the associated material that is due with it is worth 100 points.
