From the Rector

JULY 2017

Greetings from Hardangerfjord in Norway. Marc and I hiked over 50 miles of varied countryside, from lakes and fjords, to high tundra with snow fields. Most of it was fairly easy going, some of it was very strenuous, and all of it was awesome! We thank God for the blessing of time away and a change of pace. This is a beautiful world that God has made. See you all soon.

From the Youth Director

We are biologically prone to hold grudges. It is the easier option when some sort of negativity has emerged in a relationship. However, many studies have been done regarding the effect of unresolved conflict on the human body. During emotional conflict, or stress of any kind, the body releases the stress hormone, cortisol. This triggers the "fight or flight" response you once read about in biology. Cortisol diminishes oxytocin, the hormone we need to feel happy and loved. God created these amazing bodies. He gave us the ability to choose to forgive. He gave us the ability to release ourselves from anger and negativity, and to follow the cross into his light, and his forgiveness. Often times, the recipient of your grudge is holding one against you as well. That cannot be helped. All you can do is let go of your own anger, forgive the person, and forgive yourself.

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

Blessing of the Backpacks

and Back to School Party

On Sunday, August 19, we will be kicking off our school year with a bang! At both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. service, Rev. Anne will bless all backpacks, laptop bags, and briefcases for a successful and fruitful school/work year. Dress casually as we will have a cookout and jumpers for the kids after the 10:30 service. Hot dogs will be provided by the Men's Group, while sides will be provided by the Supper Club. If you would like to bring a side or dessert, please do not hesitate! Contact Evie with questions.

Telecare

We are currently looking for

volunteers to help with the

TeleCare Ministry. Duties include

calling a list of about 20 church

members to let them know when

special events are happening at St.

Paul's. This generally occurs once

every quarter. The more callers

we have, the shorter the list

becomes for each caller. You can

make the calls from your

home. For more information,

please call or email Wortley Cole

at

662-574-5591

or jnwcole@. Thank

you.

Volunteers are needed for Christian Education on Sunday mornings, from 9:15 to 10:15. Lesson plans and materials are provided. The new year begins on September 16.

Please let the church office know if you are interested in this chance to have a lifelong impact on the spiritual growth of our youth.
