The GIAYA recognizes Georgia authors who are independently or non-traditionally published.Decision making was extremely difficult.? There were large numbers of submissions in each category.? The Southern Pen Team had to narrow the submissions to two deserving writers within each category. Listed are the finalists and winners.?Categories & FinalistsYoung AdultStolen – Marlena FrankPorkington Hamm? -- M.M. Rodeheaver (winner) (Macon Chapter Scribblers Christian Writers Group)First NovelLife is Hard. Soften It with Laughter – Marlene Ratledge Buchanan (winner) (Snellvile Scribblers Christian Writers Group) Ain’t Nothing But the Devil – Lorelai WatsonThe Georgia Writers Association decided in the fall of 2018 to no longer include non-traditionally published writers of the state in their annual Georgia Author of the Year Award. A non-traditionally published author, often referred to as an Indie Author, are writers who either self-published or used a hybrid publisher to produce their books.? This often entails the author paying either all or a portion of the cost to publish their works.? Vickie Bley, owner of The Southern Pen Book Shop and an independent author herself, decided these authors should be recognized.? She founded the Georgia Independent Author awards in response to the Georgia Writers Association’s decision.? The first annual GIAYA was held in May 2019.?Scribblers authors are invited ?to the annual Hoschton Fall Festival hosted ?by the City. On Saturday October 17th Hoschton United Methodist Church, located 2 blocks away, will open the Fellowship Hall for us to sell books. Not sure about car show yet. Charles will not be able to attend, conflict with other commitment. SPA - Winter Craft Fair Vendor FormSnellville Performing Arts is excited to host our second annual Winter Wonderland Craft Fair!? The intent of this period is to give the author the opportunity to have other authors read, hear, and comment on what the author is writing. This is meant as a period of encouragement, and of constructive review. What did you like about what the author wrote? What did you learn from what was written? What could be improved upon? This also give the author the opportunity to discuss what is behind what is written. If you would like to be included in next month’s review, please contact your chapter leader and provide up to 4 pages of content. This Month’s Review – Pending ................
