The services provided include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, trials on indictment before juries and provides leadership to several Government networks. Crown Law’s vision is to provide collaborative, indispensable, legal service. Crown Law’s purpose is summarised in the following statements:Legal experts:? It must leverage the collective strength of the government’s 1200 lawyers, support those lawyers to do their jobs inside agencies, and encourage decision-makers to make better use of their lawyers and legal resources.The System Leadership Group:Directly supports the Solicitor-General’s leadership of the Government Legal Network (GLN). The GLN is a collaborative initiative to facilitate an “all of government” approach for legal services. Led by the Solicitor-General with support of all government lawyers, the overarching purpose of the GLN is to provide high quality legal advice, services and value to the Crown, enabling the delivery of better public services to New Zealanders.Supports the flow of information and insights between Crown Law and it networks.Enables Crown Law to identify and respond to agency legal risks in a co-ordinated way. The Group provides a point of focus for the gathering of strategic information and the use of the various responses available to manage system risk, whether by enhancing network capability or capacity building, proactively providing strategic advice and resources, assisting with policy development or engaging to influence key decision-makers in other agencies.Will specifically deliver many of Crown Law’s integrated operating model projects. Implementation of the integrated operating model requires a programme that will impact across the whole of Crown Law and will be shared responsibly across the office.GLN Programmes and Capability TeamThe Government Legal Network is home to over 1200 lawyers who work in a variety of ministries, departments, Crown Entities, commissions and research institutes. Our lawyers work across the country to protect the rule of law, and to maintain the integrity of our constitutional democracy. Every day, government lawyers are negotiating and overseeing some of New Zealand’s largest contracts and international agreements, informing the Crown’s role as a Treaty partner, considering how resources are maintained for future generations, drafting legislation and working closely with policy colleagues, and upholding the rule of law through public and Crown ernment lawyers practice in every major area of law including international law, environmental law, Treaty of Waitangi, resource management, human rights, privacy, public and administrative law, health law, commercial law, revenue, ICT law, property law and criminal law.The Government Legal Network is led by the Solicitor-General as head of the government legal profession. The GLN Programmes and Capability Team:Directly supports the Solicitor-General’s leadership of the Government Legal Network (GLN).
